Default Whats in YOUR Dehydrator- May 2009

Today I'm doing one tray of parsley and one of chives. They've been growing in the south facing bay window all winter, and I've been using them all winter and now it's time to put them outside. So I cut them way back and now I'm drying them

I've got 4 quarts of strawberries being sliced as I type. (I just love 12 y/o's who want to help in the kitchen) I'm also going to do some more celery and mushrooms today.

I went to the store this morning to buy more strawberries to dehydrate because they were still on sale. They were OUT!

I bought some applesauce to make various fruit leathers and guess what happened when I picked the bag up to bring it in from the truck. The bag broke! I was in hubby's truck; so I didn't have my reuseable bags. I bought some cans of peach pieces (cheaper than halves or slices) AND they were on sale. I guess I could dehydrate them.

I did get a good deal on chicken and cereal though, BUT they don't go in the dehydrator.

Today I'm trying to dehydrate pureed fruit to make fruit roll-ups. I had a bag of mixed frozen fruit from Aldi's that I needed to use up, so I pureed it and cooked it and am trying to make fruit roll-ups from it. Not sure if it will turn out well though.

Woo-hoo!!! I have finally mastered potatoes!!! No more nasty brown ones for me!! It took forever, and I blanched them until almost cooked, but they turned out great!

    Dried blackberries this week too.

As far as use, I make turkey soup with rehydrated veggies. Used some re-hyd peppers in couscous salad. And used some re-hyd spinach in dip for later tomight.

I finally ordered extra trays and leather sheets. They all came in this week. Our Nesco supposedly takes 30 trays. DS figured out we couldn't fit 30 between the counter and ceiling if we tried!

I also got my pressure canner. It's a beauty!!! Until school is done for the year, it's going to be sitting on the counter though.

FO3, woo hoo, give us a step by step on the potatoes please. Way to go with using your dehydrated food this week. A new canner....I love my canner. Even when it's put up underneath my cabinets, I still smile when I see it...

I was leaning towards microwaving my potatoes. I want to do cubed ones, so I thought I'd try the microwave.
I have my waterbath canner now and found another without the rack for $5 at a church yard sale yesterday.
I just can not find jars at these things. Sure, they're at the retail stores, but I sure would love to find a windfall on some , somewhere.

Yesterday I did some cabbage and okra. I went to Sams and got two big things of fresh spinach and I will be doing that, or most of it, today. We had a community yardsale yesterday and I didn't even look for canning jars!! I passed over all the glass stuff thinking I didn't need anything like that. Argh!!!!
