Default Whats in YOUR dehydrator Jan 2010

Nobody started this thread yet? Whats going on? Where is everybody? Give up?

I just finished 2 trays of mushrooms and I have 3 trays of apricot halves going now.

They were on sale at the store 10 cans for $10. They said unpeeled on the label, so I peeled 4 cans and left 2 to see how they turn out.
When I've eaten dried apricots I've never noticed if they had peels.

Next up is some more celery and the leaves.

Can anyone tell me why you would dehydrate celery and the leaves? I do not know anything about dehydrating so I am curious if this is something I should start doing!

I am going to go back to the store and get some more apples. At aldi thier bags of apples this week are 1.20 a bag. That is way cheap for here at least.

I wish I still had my apple peeler corer thing from pamperd chef. Argh.

I have not come accross a lot of good deals lately that called for dehydrating.

I have used it to raise my bread dough it was so cold here in Florida for a week or more. Getting back in the swing of things after the holidays.

They are very good to add to soups and stews. Just clean them, cut them and put in the dehydrator.

There is a group of us here that trying our hand at dehydrating. Most of are new to it, but are loving it.

There is a wonderful site to show you all about it.

it's a question of storage. You can buy the foods on sale and then dry them and save money and space. Of course, I find the celery only good for a long cooking time like soups and stews. The leaves are very good for chicken, tuna, ham salads. Real good flavor.
I dry veggies that I grow or buy cheap on sale and I dry fruits when they're in season and a good price and then store them in mason jars.
If you have a vacuum sealer you can vacuum seal the jars and they store a long time without going bad.

I'm making muffins and my oatmeal with dried strawberries I did last summer. nummers! I have apples for this coming spring and summer for pies, cakes, muffins, sweet breads, etc because I dried them last Fall.

I have been dehydrating lemons and juicing lemons and dehydrating lemons and juicing lemons. We had a bumper crop on our tree this year.

I covered the dehydrated peaches with boiling water and let sit, then poured out extra water to mix with cornstarch, brought peaches to a boil stirred in sugar and some cornstarch water, cooked till thick and poured in pie crust.

I will definitely to peaches and apples again. They make good pies!
