Vancouver SW Washingon Area
Hi Everyone,
I'm new here. I actually live in Skamania county but I come in to the Vancouver area to shop. Sometimes I do go across the river to the Portland/Gresham area as well.
I work 35 hrs a week outside the home plus I have 8 children at home. So this means I normally can only get in to "town" once a week..usually on a Saturday afternoon.
I used to have a nice stockpile but with adding a sibling group of 4, the weather and some major illnesses, we have really brought it down to maybe two weeks in reserves. Living up the mountian, this makes me nervous!
I do buy the Sunday Columbian for the coupons, collect them at the store and pick them up anywhere I can find them. Anyone else have a good resource for coupons?
What are the best stores to shop at? The only ads I get are Safeway, Rosauers (hood river location), and Thriftway (White Salmon location). We used to get so many other stores, now nothing.
Also, I could use some gardening advice. This raining is killing me. I really need a very prolific garden this year! Last year was a bust, contributing to my low reserves.
I'd appreciate any tips or hints you could provide!

aboard. Glad you have joined us.
I hear you about the rain as eastern Wash. is getting lots too. The bad news is that I heard we are supposed to have a "wetter than normal" spring (especially April) and could be cool through June. (we just finished the third WETTEST March on record!)
We are still under La Nina........which means cooler. Supposed to end in June............LET'S HOPE!
The Rosauers in my area is really high $.........but they usually have good meat. Don't shop there much though.

Thanks so much for the welcome. I'd love to visit Hawaii..some day..but vacationing with 8 children is just way out of our price range.
I've ordered a book from the library about gardening year round in a hoop house. This just might be the way we have to go. Right now we have little "hot houses" for our spinach, celery and a few other things. I already planted peas, but I'll bet they are just going to rot like last year. We have great soil...but plants can't grow with no sun!
Plus the rain does NOTHING For my mood! LOL!

Welcome from Portland! Will this rain ever end? I want to start container gardening too, on a small scale, but I think it is way too wet and cold and windy to plant anything yet.
I like to shop at Fred Meyers. I think their sales ads are posted online if you don't get them in the mail. Trader Joes and Grocery Outlet are also good stores in the area. I get good prices on TP at Walgreens pretty often, sometimes at Fred Meyers.

Hey! Hi! I am near Portland. I am closer to Longview than Vancouver though.

Welcome....I'm a little further north than you in Cowlitz County. I'm wondering too when the rain will stop and warmer weather will get here to start planting.

Well yesterday it snowed here! Okay, it didn't "stick" but it was icy this morning. How crazy is this weather?
We moved here from White Salmon 7 years ago. We lived there for 15 years, my husband's family still lives there.
