Default who uses paper in the litter box?

We need to change our litter box more often so I was thinking about adding shredded newspaper to to the litter to make it stretch. Do you think that would work? Any other suggestions?

I thought I hit gold when I thought of that idea! Only problem was the girls trapsed the little shreaded pieces throughout the entire house! Back to using the litter!

Wanted to add, I have been seriously considering training them to go on the toilet - Purchased the contraption a couple of months ago but just haven't had time to try and train them on it yet.

I can't imagine my cats using the toilet. I think they're too old to learn new tricks. My oldest is about 11.

I was wondering how well shredded newspaper would work, I'm thinking of trying it. Do we know if it's better to shred the paper into long strips or cross cut like confetti?

I have no idea, but I was thinking about mixing paper with litter so that it wouldn't be a complete change. I would just be using the paper as filler since it's free.

I tried the paper idea and my cat hated it he started pooping on the floor. I get the pellets now and they last alot longer. Just make sure you clean it everyday and this will cute down on the cost of cat litter. Also it is not messy at all. You can find them in the cat litter section.
