can a cat be suicidal? or is it just too much catnip?
seriously I'm concerned that my one cat doesn't want to live he's so insane
he tries to climb walls, not like right angle walls, but seperation walls where he can get his paws around them
so he jumps then tries to hang on and jump higher
due to the tile in the bathroom he can get his footing on one side about 4 feet up the wall
I've seen him jump, then push off the tile and jump higher, so high that he bashes his head on the top of the door frame, momentarily knocking himself out....
I'm flaberghasted
I keep the door shut so he can't do it but REALLY
I've never seen a cat do this before it's really strange
he's my baby, he was a rescue and last year dh and I spent liek $2500 in vet bills to save him when he had kidney surgery as well as a severe heart murmur, he's one of our babies and I'm really worried about it
the vet says it's no big deal but I'm scared he will really injure himself
I'm good about keeping the door shut
but one of our other cats knows how to open doors so sometimes it's open:-(

Kelly! that's so funny.
One of my cats does that too. Climbs up the door jam.
Since I am the Cat Whisperer, he tells me he thinks that the birds he saw from the window that flew overhead are now in the attic and he needs to check.
Open attic door. In goes Cat- no birds - all better.
So, look around the area and see if there's something he needs to know. I finally resorted to keeping the attic door open for his frequent peeks for peeps - prowl for fowl needs.
Also... he needs to use those claws. It's natural. It's how they keep them groomed.
If you can and you want to be a fun cat mom... make them a pole with thick rope coiled around. Floor to ceiling.
We used a porch balaster. The kind that holds up the corners of a roof on a porch. Recycled. Purchased the rope. and the cats get their need fulfilled and.. play king of the pole....exercise needs.
and on and on.

Just wondering, what kind of cat do you have? My dd has a tuxedo cat & I've never seen such a high energy, into everything cat in my life. Stuie climbs walls and tries to catch anything & everything. Loves tp , cardboard, dust, anything & everything.
Hope your cat stays safe Kelly.~*Darlene*~

My cat likes to climb the shower curtain. He seems to leave the window curtains alone... thank goodness. But he always likes to be on the top shelf to look down at everything that goes on and will jump from one shelf to another like he is a goat. I don't think it is behavior to worry about too much.
FrugalNurse: very enlightening story, You have a very intelligent cat there.

A friend at church had a cat that started acting up. She took him to the vet and the cat was put on prozack for animals. I don't know what it is called but he was put on medication to calm him down and now he is the same sweet cat she is used to having.

Well, I thought it was just my cat that climbed the door jams to the TOP of the door and hangs on with BIG eyes!

She is too funny at times. But also very scared of everything. I think she needs Prozac!!

LOL Kelly I have a FEW kitties like that.
Cats are just naturally curious, and love searching/finding things. Frugal Nurse has some great ideas.
Sounds like your little one needs some extra play and stimulation. Believe it or not, not all cats are laid back, lay in the sun sleepy kind of guys. ROFL My Conan is a goof! Rather than run through the house, he HAS to go up and over EVERY obstical he can find to get where he is going. Sometimes it is ME!
Yes they do mellow with age, but sometimes it takes a few years.
Besides the scratching post, my kids LOVE this toy http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2751250 I purchased the small one when my Bub was a kitten, she is now 17 and every cat I have loves it!~~ Dee ~~
