Our hamster, Jasmine, passed away...
Hi Folks,
I am so sad, as our little girl hamster, Jasmine, passed away today.
We only had her about 2 months, so I think there may have been underlying issues. Perhaps I'm being silly...I know she was just a dwarf hamster, but she was still one of our "babies"! We may not get anymore hamsters...my DH says it's like "buying a small tragedy" because they only live a short time. Well, I know Jasmine is happy and healthy now...since she went over the Rainbow Bridge.
Thanks for letting me share.
Blessings,

I also don't buy hamsters anymore because they can be gone so quickly. I would like to get a rat again some time soon, but even they only live a few years.
Sorry for your loss! :hugs:

We lost our Commander Bun Bun (black bunny) day before yesterday. It stinks losing a pet. I wish you the best.

I'm sorry. Losing a pet is very hard, no matter how small they are. My kids each had a hamster from the same litter, and one died one day and the other died the next. We were all very very sad. Hugs to you..

I am sorry for your loss. we lost our hamster back in march.. but she did live about 3 years... the last week she was alive she started to bloat up and turn really grey haired.. like old fast. I guess it was just here time.
with hamsters you gotta watch that they dont get out and eat anything they cant digest. also they if they dont have a clean cage and fresh water. the cage has to have plenty of circulation of air. (no aquariums) they are less likely to get the tail rot.. that is what really kills them. they get the diareah and their tale starts to turn black and eventually it will kill them from dehydration. When ever you see diareah you need to watch the food and I gave ours pedialite (plain) until it passed. I hope you dont ever quit loving... animals... it is all in the circle of life.. ours brought such joy into our lives..
take care and lots of hugs

Hi Ms. Louise and Everyone,
Thanks for this info, so I know what to keep an eye out for, if we do get another hamster!
I guess this was not Jasmine's problem, as she did not have diarrhea at all. I really think there is a problem with the breeding at the store where we got all 3 of ours, as none of them lived a full lifespan...If we get another one, I think we will adopt from a local rescue.
I'm feeling better about Jasmine, as I know she had a good life...I held her often (even though she bit me!), and she got good food, clean water, and treats. She had a nice open wire cage with chew toys and a little wood barrel to play in. She had soft bedding and loved to run in her wheel.
Thanks to everyone for your messages - They really helped!!!
Blessings,
