    Default Keeping the Flies Away

Yesterday I discovered my dog, Raven's ears have been attacked by biting flies. I felt so bad for her. She is an indoor dog when I'm home, but outdoors while I'm away. I washed her ears with soap and water, not easy to do on a 60lb Rottie. Does anyone have any way to keep the flies away?? It has been super wet and raining here almost everyday, so the flies and mosquitos are out in hoards. Also, is there anything I should do to her ear's? They have a sore spot on each ear the size of a quarter. Poor baby. The flies have not yet gotten to my other dog, Ruby yet. Thank goodness.

What about putting something like neosporin on the wounds? Can you use that on dogs?

Hmmm, I don't know. Is there any way you could bring her in the house?

    Hi,

Oh, your poor doggie! I don't know what you could use to keep the flies off her ears, but we have used peroxide on a cotton ball to doctor sores on our kitties before. Hopefully, someone here will have a tip for you soon about the pesky flies!

    Blessings,

Vaseline! It has worked wonders for our dog's ears, DH re-applies it about every other day.

I had a dog that had that problem, I used diluted tea tree oil (with vege oil) on her ears and the flies stayed away so her ears could heal.

My mom would use Avon's Skin So Soft Oil and lightly rub just a little bit on our dog's ears and coat to help keep the flys and mosquitos from biting. It worked like a charm and it wasn't enough oil for the dog to lick off and get sick from. I don't think I would apply it to broken skin though but it could be put around the ears where there is fur.

I called the Vet, and they said to use Neosporin. So her ears are gooped up and I have kept her inside as much as possible. She loves being outside, so it is tough. I will have to try out those other suggestions to see how they work. Thanks!!

You might want to try and find Swat. it is for flies. we use it on our goats and it does keep them away. bag balm is good for sores on animals.
