Vaccinations trouble...
Well, this is the month for my dog's vaccines and I am beginning to get anxious he is #5 years old and each year has recieved vaccinations. He did not have any trouble with them until last year.
Prior to his vaccinations he was happy, energetic, playful and enjoyed being held. Right after he recieved his vaccinations last year he became listless and did not want to be touched. When I would pick him up he would whine as though he was in pain and ached wherever I touched him. He just laid on the floor looking pitiful. He lost his appetite. The vet said not to worry about it and he would be OK in a day or so. I gave him benedryl but I do not think that it helped.
He did not return to his happy, energetic self for almost a week after his vaccinations. I know that nothing else could have caused this change in behavior/condition but the vaccines.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?Baby Step #1 Done!

Here is a good website on pets and vaccinations. I hope that this helps and I pray your dog is feeling better soon.

Never had that kind of reaction, but my Jug has a reaction every time she gets shots. Her face swells up. She looks funny. So, now she gets meds before she gets shots and after. She still swells up even with the meds, but not quite as bad.

Wife seems to think he is having an allergic reaction that is getting worse as he ages. Talk to the vet about alternatives or a different schedule for the shots. As in not all at once.

Our vet recommends a yearly exam, but only one vaccine a year. Our dog had her rabies shot this year, I believe she will have distemper next year, and the following year only an exam. She also seemed to have more itching/allergy related puffiness in the past when receiving several vaccines at once, and this year seemed to tolerate just the rabies better. We've stopped bringing our indoor cats in for vaccines, too.

One of my kitties when a kitten was listless and looked like she would start drooling soon after getting her shot. Took her to the vet and the vet said it was probably a reaction to the shot but she would be alright. Anyway she was fine the next day. Haven't had a problem since other than trying to remember they are a little sore where the shot was.

I didn't read all the posts so sorry if this is a repeat. But..ask your vet to do a titer test before vaccines. I've never done yrly shots on dog over 2..they got their puppy shots, then the yrly booster and titered after that. We usually ended up with 3 yrs between doses.

Ask your vet, but I know in my area, they are doing some vaccines every 3 years, depending on different variables.
They still need to be examined every year regardless if they are vaccinated.
