I adopted a dog
Well, I finally gave in and got another doggie. My other companion died 1.5 years ago and I've been trying to decide if I could emotionally handle another pet. I've been looking a bit for a mixed breed (mutt) that is not a puppy and a good house dog.
I found her on the Humane Society website, she was in foster care. She is an answer to my prayers. I suffer from severe depression and several other issues. The winter is the worst for me....especially when dh travels. This dog is amazing! They had her listed as lab/poodle, but there is definitely something else going on! She's mid sized, stockly, curly, with a stubby bristly tail and bowlegged hind end! We're thinking Airedale maybe....
She's about 2, has had a litter of pups, and was just spayed. She has impeccable house manners, can sit, lay down, leaves the room when you tell her to. She barks at the door, then sits back until you tell her she can greet. She walks perfectly on leash and has no bad habits that we've seen at all! No chewing, no chasing, no jumping. She even ignors the flocks of ducks in the yard.
They were calling her Ginger, but I have named her Zhora. My biggest thing was, I wanted a dog to walk. so that I would HAVE to get up everyday and take care of her needs. She has made it perfectly clear that is absolutely expected!
She is laying her sound asleep beside me.....Stinkbug

She is adorable and I am sure very well loved. I am glad you got another dog, I know you love her and I know she loves you too!
Love her hair BTW, looks like a mix with some poodle.

She actually was listed as a a stray, but I can't imagine. She is so smart and well mannered, and an absolute love bug! Her foster mom told me they'd be glad to dog sit her if we ever needed to get away for a weekend, or anything. She acts like she has lived here forever.....she stands at the back door if she wants out, and comes and nuzzles your hand if she wants petted.

Rescues are the best, aren't they?
I think she is definitely labradoodle ~ her fur gives it away
She sounds like a peach ~ thank you for adopting her

What a beauty!

Both of my dogs are rescues (as are many of my other critters), and I've been involved in animal rescue for several decades. Good for you for getting a "used" dog instead of feeling like you needed a puppy. Sounds like she is a complete dream.

I've always had second hand dogs.....and always had great success with them. It's easy to adopt a puppy.....the other dogs always get left behind. My last rescue was 8 when I got her and lived to be 15. I'm so attached to this one already...it's not even funny! (we got her Friday night). She is going to be so good for me....
