Question It can't be a Doggie prerequisite??? But it drives me NUTS!!!

OK, so, I finally broke down and got a pup last june.....I did it because I needed some company when all the kids were gone to school and hubby was gone to work. And the cute lil bugger needed a home!
She was only 5 weeks when we brought her home and has been a awesome and smart dog! Then a few months later Hubby rescued this lil guy from certain death in California when on a winter wood cutting trip. No biggie, They both have short hair, I will adjust! (I'm allergic to dogs, cats, anything with fur, accept hubby!!!)
One of my things is I am OCD about "clean" and therefore I hate, despise, loath animal fur on anything at all!!! But, I deal with it, because they are my little pal's and it turns out they do a hell of a job cleaning the hardwood floors!!

Here is my dilemma, as bad as this might sound, I do think that most things animals do are, well, lets just go with gross!! Licking themselves and each other, makes me think, " OMG I KNOW where your mouth has been do not be tryin to kiss me"!!! It is the clean freak in me!!

So, the Pup, Gizmo...She HAS to lick or slime my feet/ankles with her tongue or nose ANY time she comes near me!!!!!!!!!
WHY, after 9 freakin months of either covering them up or scolding her for doing it, you would think she would learn to quit by now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lil guy does not do it so I know it is not prerequisite!!!

And the stupid thing is I know my feet are not clean for god sakes, I walk around on floors and even outside barefoot so it is not like she is dirtying them up or something, But it absolutely drives me up a freakin wall when she does it!!!

OK, Rant over!!! I needed to vent I suppose!

My dog has to lick the BF's feet every time he comes near her.
She doesn't do it to any one else. Just him
It must be some kind of doggy thing.
Either that or you're just that sweet that the puppy can't get enough of you!

Sorry to laugh, but I know how you feel! We have "licking dogs" here too.
You have to understand why dogs lick, and why they have the behavior they do.
Its all nature to them, they lick to show you how much they care, and when you growl at them for doing it, they double their efforts to show they are being submissive, want to belong to the pack, and want the pack leader (being you!) to except them! It is a emotional response in them because of their social behavior. Think about Wolves you have seen and how the lower ones always want to groom the upper social position in the pack. It makes them feel bonded, and a part of the "human" pack that they call family. The dog is showing you that YOU are the Alpha of the pack and acknowledging your more important status.

And don't worry to much about "kissing your feet", dog diease USUALLY doesn't cross to humans!
Here is a cute article on just that, How clean is your dogs mouth?
    http://thedailywoof.blogspot.com/200...ogs-mouth.html
Written by a Vet it tells you lots of info on just that.
Hope this helps a little, and it really is a sweet way (may be a little yucky, depending of what they have been doing!!) for them to let you know they love and respect you.

For the love of God, I put a bell on her collar so I could hear her comin!!!!!!

It is not just her either!!! I love going over and stoking the fire because the pups come over and love on me, I cannot let them touch my arms so have to wear long sleeves, I have to stretch up all the time because if they touch my face or neck I'm swollen with hives for hours, but I love letting them love on me....Then Hubby gets a good laugh because as soon as I am done I have to tear off the shirt with their hair on it and wash my hands and face
It really is pathetic, between my allergies and my phobia of dog slop and dog hair I'm truly pathetic but I love the lil boogers!!
Gizmo and Sparky (I'll give you 3 guess' which ones Gizmo!!!)

My sweet little Frannie licks my calves every evening when we go to bed. She falls asleep doing it. As she drifts off to sleep the licking will slow down and almost stop until she realizes she is falling asleep. When that happens she instantly starts licking at her normal pace again. It keeps going on and on until she just cannot fight falling asleep any longer.

She also licks the blanket or pillow she falls asleep on.

It really doesn't bother me. She is not one to lick you in the face and she is too fat to bend her body over and around to lick certain parts of her body.

At night, my Maddie loves to lick my face. I always let her because she loves doing it so much. She rarely gives "kisses" during the day so I usually let her at night.

I hear ya! I don't like dog "kisses" either. We just trained Bear not to lick people. When he was younger and tried to lick us, we'd stop petting him. We'd give it a few seconds and pet him again. If he tried to lick again, we'd stop petting him. He learned quickly not to lick us

OMG My dog Jack is like that! For the first year or so he didnt do that at all, then out of the blue he has to lick our feet.... ewwwwww..... I mean dogs are lickers, that's understandable but if we have socks on he will scratch at them until someone takes off their socks....

I on the other hand usually just yell NO! and he get's the point... now here's a food for thought.... yell at her NO! each time and point as in to tell her to go lay down, I do this with my dog and he listens even though my DH tends to give in to his licking he knows he CANT do that to me.

Last night when I got home from town, I took my shoes off, It was an awfully long Day and she ran right over to lick my feet......I jumped up on the counter and yelled no at her and she just stood there, tryin to get to my feet ROFLMAO
By the time it was over, hubby had to take her outside so I could get down off the counter!!!
I put my shoes back on until bed time!!
She knows the word no, if I yell "NO" at her 99% of the time she stops whatever she is doing and runs over with her tail between her legs and licks my feet!!!!
Guess I am just going to have to find a pair of house shoes that I can wear all the time, because there is no stoppin the psycho foot lickin dog!!!

Yikes, seems like an obsessive compulsive disorder to me, they say you should try to distract her and if she stops licking then tell her "Good Girl", most often she will return to licking but then again you have to train her over and over with this method until she stops the licking. I saw that on the show "It's me or the Dog". It works!

Dogs lick us because they love us and it is their way of showing affection. You have a couple of cuties.
