    Default kitty toots

My 5 month old kitty has a really bad gas problem. He can literally clear a room. Even he leaves when it is really bad. I have tried to change his diet but it has had no effect. what is causing this?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer. I'm sure someone here will have some ideas. I have one cat and luckily she has never had a tooting problem. My Wesley dog, on the other hand, has gas problems all the time.

What are you feeding him right now? Many low quality foods can cause gas. For example, dogs can't digest corn and it gives many of them indigestion. I would assume the same to be true for cats.

When I first found our kitten he was a stray and had bad gas. As I fed him a diet of better quality cat food his gas went away. Unfortunately mine will ignore cat food if he thinks he can find people food. You don't dare leave a plate sit and if you can't find him he's probably under the high chair.

I agree with changing the food. I have also found that if you can get them on dry (kitten food for now) instead of wet food (canned) that it really helps. Purina is a great cat and dog food, that they all seem to take to pretty easy, and you can switch them by mixing dry with wet, cutting the wet out a little more each day until they are on the dry totally. That way they don't mind the switch to bad.

I agree with trying to change their food. I feed a grain free food and don't have any issues with gas. I have also found a grain free wet food that he gets a spoonful of every morning. He loves it.

We have the same problem with our new kitty. Holy moly she STINKS! She is already on Royal Kanin (from the vet) dry food, so goodness only knows what we would have to do.

Do they make Beano for kitties?

Our new kitty Sam tooted when he was younger, but he seems to have grown out of it. He's 2 now.

A couple of ours had the gas problem, we changed their food and it stopped.

One cannot eat purina at all, and the other one only eats the purina.

Each cat seeems to be different. Our vet said they have an allergy to something in the food.

Blue gets Iams. When he was little he tooted, he was a foundling and was really too small to be weaned. We fed him plain yogurt and that helped him alot.

Thanks for the advice given thus far. He eats dry Meow Mix and occassionally gets canned. I have tried eliminating the can to no effect. I also tried switching the dry to Wholesome goodness. Again, nothing. I hope he outgrows it. He is a very loving cat and loves to be petted and to lay with someone to sleep.

Try sticking with a good dry kitten food for a while. Changing foods can also cause distress. I had one cat who apparently didn't like driving in cars. All the way to the vet and back she tooted all the way. LOL Other than that she was a beautiful friendly cat.
