    Default My poor puppy

Last Friday Joe called me at work to tell me that he noticed while getting ready for work that one side of Speedy's (our bassett hound) face was swollen and there was a knot on it. I called our vet and they said they would be there til 6 on Friday. So I left work about 4:30 ran home and got the dog (luckily mom was up so I didn't have to drag Paige out in single digit weather.) I got Speedy to the vet and whereas she usually barks at anyone she doesn't know she didn't make a noise at the vets office (until they took her temp.....she was none to happy with that....lol)

Anyway, she acted fine til the vet went to touch her jaw and she snapped. He said he noticed a smell that was common with infections in the mouth and thought the might have an absessed tooth. He gave her a couple Rx and after one day on them the swelling was gone. She took them the rest of the week and Joe took her in Thursday for surgery. They got her under and clipped her nails, gave her the shots she was due for, cleaned her teeth and had to pull 3 back teeth. She's on the same meds they gave her before the surgery for another week and still eating soft foods but they told us we could start remixing her regular dry food in with the soft food and some water after a few day's if we wanted and that within 10-14 day's she should be able to eat what she wants again.

She's been a little mopey the last few day's but is starting to get back to her normal self.

Poor pup. I had a foster pup with an abscess in his jaw, and it required him to have all sorts of drainage tubes and antibiotics. I am glad to hear your pup's experience was less traumatic!! Sounds like she is on the road to a speedy recovery!!

Glad that your pup is feeling better. One of our pups just had a "I am sick visit tothe vet". He had a bacterial infection or something like that. He was put on meds and a bland diet of a couple of days. We think he got into the compost pile.

Awww...glad to hear Speedy is doing better(I love the name!)

My Vet told me that teeth cleaning is one of the few things that can extend a dog's life, so we're planning a cleaning for our beagle soon.

I am really glad she is doing well. We have always brushed our dogs teeth. I guess maybe it is a good thing not just a funny and sometimes futile way to spend some time. If only my dentist would put me out like that.
