Don't you wish pets could talk?
Our new family member Riley (rescued from the shelter) has a story & I so wish I knew what it was. Where did he come from? Who cared for him? In so many ways I can tell someone took time to show him to sit and take treats ever so gently from your hands but they didn't have him neutered. Maybe he had the love but they didn't have the money. Did he wander away...maybe this maybe that.
You pet owners know what I'm talking about wishing they could talk when they are hurt or in need of something. You get so close so quickly.
I'm sorry if his previous family were looking and couldn't find him... he's ok now. He'll be cared for and loved. And thank you for whatever you did to help make him such a sweet gentle soul.
For all of you who have pets and love them & care for them I know one thing they all would say if they could talk....thanks.~*Darlene*~

I have always wished animals could talk. Our rottie Sammy has the most amazing expressions on his face that I wish he could tell me what he was thinking. Our cats are pretty easy to know.....they always looked peed off for some reason or another!!...

I so agree with you!
Zippy is NOT your typical Jack Russell ~ he is so loving that it seems to me that he is just thankful to be in a house where people love him and that's how he gives back to us. From the way he acts we have kind of surmised what his life was like before ~ little to no attention and probably an outdoor dog.
Zoey was abused as a puppy and she has some marks on her that I don't want to know how they got there. It just breaks my heart. She was so food aggressive when we got her she used to have to eat in her crate. We had my old lab still and he kind of taught her that there is always food around here
There is another little female JRT at the pound where we got Zippy and it's killing me to not go get her. So many people have told me not to have two jacks in the house. I think Zippy needs a really calm dog not another jack, LOL.Nancy

that's funny cuz' i was thinking that this morning, wondering what my dogs life was like before we rescued him, we have had him for 8 years now. We know he was found on the side of the road in Indiana and he was thin and hungry but that's about we know for sure We think he may have been involved in a fire somehow because he is very sensitive to smoke and gets especially nervous when our fire alarm goes off (usually after a super steamy shower or a kitchen problem lol)

my two cats harley and baxter came from a shelter...harley was 4 mos old when we got him and someone had put him in a bag and sealed it and threw him away...thankfully someone found him right away and took him to the shelter...how anyone could do that is beyond me...just turn them loose for god's sake...(okay...i don't want them turned loose..but considering the alternative they chose for him...it would have been better...but maybe not...someone found him and he found me...but anyway)...harley has never completely forgiven people...he's 3 yrs old now and he still runs when someone knocks on the door or he hears voices he doesn't recognize...he is so terrified that he chewed his way thru the bottom of my boxspring and gets up into it to hide...he loves dh and I and he has accepted one or two other people (but they can't touch him) as i type this he is sprawled across my lap and is forcing me to balance the puter on the tip of my knees... he is looking up at me with complete admiration.... he does talk to me...i ask him questions and he meows back at me with the sweetest little sound...sometimes noise comes out when he opens his mouth...sometimes he just looks as if he's meowing but you hear nothing....i know he is happy now and i try to give him the best life possible coz i feel like i owe it to him..he's a good boy and he has returned his companionship two fold.....
i read somewhere on a blog that a lady said she was always 'critized' for treating her animals as 'children' and that they in no way were on equal footing with people and that while the world is going hungry people are spending more and more money on crap for their animals..and she responded- when i 'adopted' all my pets i promised to care for them in the best way i know how..they in turn promised to give me loyal unquestionable companionship...they kept their end of the bargain..i'm keeping mine....as long as i eat...they eat....i thought that was pretty awesome !

The dog that we've had since he was a puppy, Max, he always thinks the same thing...food and attention.

Mandi came from an abusive and neglectful home and was left inside a fenced yard to starve to death. She is the sweetest animal I have ever been around. I would like to know her story, but I also know it would break my heart.
My other three, they are all pretty easy to read.

Our schnauzer, Harley, came from a small reputable breeder so we know his life story but our border collie, Charlie, came from a shelter but he was only there a very short time before my sister and nephew adopted him and then when my sister's company closed and she was forced to move to an apartment, he became our furbaby and is now in his forever home.
I know my furbabies don't speak "english" but they definately speak to me. We speak through the heart.

I think sometimes it would be really neat for animals to talk especially those times when they're sick and they can tell us their symptoms......it would make things so much easier. Other times though, I think I would go crazy especially w/ our cats. Can you imagine......"Hey we're HUNGRY, feed us now! Hellooo, our cat boxes are stinking down here. Eeewww, look what Nellie just did all over the carpet! I want to go outside nowww.

My cat Socks was found half dead in a culvert about 7 weeks of age right near the shelter. Someone took him home and fostered him till he was 7 months old and then we adopted him. He is now 5 and weighs 15 lbs. He is just the sweetest cat and he loves his mom ( me). I am his human.
Sadie came from the same the shelter as Socks. They did not know her back story at all. We have had her for 4 yrs and the vet thinks she is the same age as Socks. She is very sweet but you can not put your hand over her head. She cowers when someone does that. We think someone did something to her. She has NEVER meowed. We dont think she can. She does peep a little. She is dh's cat. She loves him
Shelly is a Diva and moody just like ods. She is her cat. We have no back story on her either. When we went to the shelter she just took right to ods. She can be very sweet but if you touch her wrong she will try to nip at you. She wants attention on her terms. She and ods share alot of personality traits. We got her in July 06. She is about 4 and a half or so
Sydney came from another shelter to the shelter that we got him from.
He had to be separated from his siblings because he would not let them suckle from their mom as much. When we bought him home he moved 3 grown cats away from the food bowl. He showed no fear from the get go. He is so smart, he plays fetch and brings the toy back to you. He is yds's cat and they also share personality traits. Sydney is mischiveous and so is yds Sydney is 3 yrs old

Just about every day dh and I ask each other how our doggie ended up in a shelter. Who could give her up??? She is the smartest, kindest, most affectionate, laid back dog I have EVER had. She is about 2...golden retriever and ??? and just a love bug. When we first got her she was extremely head shy and would cower and duck. But now (2 1/2 months)....she knows how much we love her and she trusts us. She is the perfect house dog and companion....perfect manners and will do anything you ask. I know that MY life is better since we adopted her.

My family thinks I'm nuts when I say this! My Am. Bulldog just sits and stares at me, and I always wonder what he is thinking, because he has such an animated look on his face!
And our Puggle...I'm pretty sure she would have a Brittish accent...not sure why, I just think she would!

Yeah, I would love to know our cats' stories.
Kiki showed up on our doorstep. Because of how she acted when she first showed up, DH says that he thinks that she was abused. It took her a long time to be comfortable here (like a few years). She is now the queen of the house.
Coco was found by a neighbor with the rest of her litter in the forest. They were out riding their ATV's and found this litter of starving kittens. They brought them home and put out a "free kittens" sign. She was the last one left of the litter. She is scared of everyone and everything. She loves Beak though. She will tolerate my existance only because I am the food person and I give her treats. She absolutely hates my husband and runs and hides when he is near. She is slowly realizing that we aren't going to make a stirfry out of her.
"The Kittens" - Whitey, Fluffy, and Socksie
Ok, they aren't kittens any more but that is their designation. They were found by another neighbor in the summer a long side a highway in a cat carrier with their Mama and the rest of the litter. The cat carrier had been there for a few days (the poor things). The neighbors brought them home and cared for them. They were wanting to find homes for some of them. These three started living on my porch. They started bedding down out on our porch each night for like a month. We didn't want more cats and I was hoping it was a temporary thing. Then, it started getting cold, like really cold (freezing) and they were still out there sleeping. I couldn't take it. I let them inside. And now, we have three more cats. Whitey and Fluffy are boys and Socksie is a girl. It is so cute. They will all lay and snuggle and groom each other. Fluffy and Whitey have a special relationship. Fluffy will actually look and look for Whitey if he can't find him.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

Sometimes it would be fun to know what they are thinking but other times...maybe not. Like when we've bought food the dogs haven't liked we've gotten looks like "What the %&$!! is this *&#@?"
But our pets are members of the family. Some people say my pals are spoiled and they're probably right. But there's nothing like a puppy kiss to put a smile on your face!On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

My German Shepherd/husky mix Rita is 10 years old and we rescued her at 5 weeks. She has really bonded with me and anticipates my every move. She reads me like a book. I have always taken her everywhere with me. Whenever anyone comes to the door that she doesn't know she always positions herself between that person and me. She makes me feel really safe because she always looks out for me and feels her job is to protect me.
My mini-dachshand mix Louie came to me just three years ago. I don't know his story, but he is very assertive. He thinks he is a (12 lb.) Rottweiler. That said he is very much the lap dog and often expects me to stop what I am doing just to sit and hold him. He can be very needy. He thinks my job is just to cater to him. LOL
My pit/chow mix GinGin is the sweetest gentlest dog you could ever meet. She is about 6 years old and I got her last fall. She is still trying to figure out where she fits in. She is very skittish and I wish she could tell me why.Challenges for 2012

My brother's Jack Russell puppy is very smart, energetic and lovable. He will come charging out of nowhere and jump full force onto your lap and try and lick your face off. Then just as quickly, he will jump down and run away. He likes me a lot and when I first met him, I gave him a plastic squeaky hotdog to chew on. He has bits of it saved and hidden all over my brother's house. I bought him a new one and whenever I come to visit (isn't often) he gets the hotdog and brings it to me although he has a lot of other toys too. He remembers!! Sometimes he gets all excited when the weather girl comes on tv and he hears her voice. He runs in from wherever he was and grabs a bit of plastic toy hotdog and jumps up and down in front of the tv. I think he thinks the weather girl is me because she's blonde and her voice must sound like me! So funny!!!
