    Unhappy Missing our puppy

Last night our puppies (7 month old brothers) went outside with the hubs while he was getting some wood. While they were out the puppies must have started to play and chase each other around the yard. At some point they ran out to the road. Cooper was chasing Tucker back home when a minivan nicked Tucker, but hit Coopie directly. At that time of night our road is pretty quiet and the puppies stay around us when we go in the yard. During the day they were always hooked.
Cooper was my DD puppy. She loved him since he was a week old. We would go every week to visit him until he was ready to come home. The day after we brought Cooper home we went back and got Tucker for our DS. The babies, as we called them, were never without each other. I am afraid that Tucker will be very lonely or even depressed. My DD is heartbroken. We all feel just awful as we love these little guys.
Just last summer we had to put our 13 year old dog to sleep because of illness. We were not ready to loose another pet so soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. We had the same thing happen to our family once, when two of our Siberians escaped their yard and one was hit by a truck. It's devastating. Ours were a year and a half old and we had gotten them at five weeks old.

Watch your second puppy carefully. If it looks like he is too depressed, think about getting a puppy. Our remaining dog was so depressed, we were afraid she would mourn herself to death. We had called the breeder to tell him about the accident and left a message. He called back and offered us a puppy. We were so heartbroken we didn't really want the puppy, but for the sake of our mourning dog, we took her. It was one of the best decisions we've ever made. The new girl brought our older doggy back to life, because she instantly started to mother the puppy. She was like salve on a burn for the rest of us, and her presence went a long way towards healing the big hole in our hearts.

That's awful! I am soo sorry. Listen to Spirit Deer's advice if you see your other puppy depressed. I have seen this happen before as well. Sending hugs.

Thank you all for your concern. Tucker has been very clingy and quiet all day. He is eating and drinking he is just not playing with any of his toys. He won't sleep in his bed and wants to be held all the time.

My DD is still very sad, as we all are. She said that although she doesn't want to replace Cooper, she does want to get another puppy. She is thinking about a female conpanion for Tucker. I wish we could go back to the breeder, but that was her last litter.

We have been scanning the humane society and puppy adoption websites, but no luck. All the dogs are either male, will get too big, or are very expensive.

Tucker is a little guy. A large female will not work. KWIM?

    Something will work out, hopefully.

i'm sorry...i had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when i started reading this post and almost didn't continue...it breaks my heart...
i know you guys are feeling really low today and i'm sure your pup is terribly sad coz he doesn't understand except that his brother is not here...it would be good for you to get him a companion and there are so many homeless animals that would be greatful to have a home....you'll know what to do....take care....

I know how you feel. My dog got hit by a car out in front of our house two years ago. I still miss her terribly. So sorry! The dog we had also had always been with another dog since the day it was born. Before we got her she had brothers and sisters with her. When we lost Madison, she was so lost and depressed. We ended up getting her a buddy because she was moping around the house all the time.
