I know my one cat's name is different...not really odd....but anyway her name is Teasa. I named her that because she looks like an old, wet teabag!

Benjita our Yorkie (mix?). She was given to us on X-mas eve a few years back. I was drunk as a skunk and blurted out that she looked like a little female Benji so Benjita it was.

DH gave my last dog a middle name of sorts. She was know as Sara Screwloose. And I admit the middle name fas appropriate. She was screwy, but dang I loved that dog.

Afonso (cat)- When we brought him home from the shelter, he was just a tiny little kitten. Even so, he went after our dog and wasn't afraid of her. "Afonso" is a German name meaning "prepared for combat", so we thought it fit his personality.
Apollo (cat)- When he was a kitten, we were told by the shelter that he was a female. But, when we took him to the vet to get his shots, we found out he was a male. So, we named him "Apollo", which means "manly."
Foxy (cat)- She was a stray that came in our yard. She was tiny but really quick, and her fur is reddish brown like a fox, so we called her "Foxy."
Sanford (cat)- He is a stray that we adopted recently. He was basically living in a pile of garbage that our neighbor had, so we named him "Sanford". Na na NA na...........na na NA na na na na.
Savannah (dog)- She's a beagle. We adopted her from a shelter in Savannah, GA, so that's where the name came from.Last edited by hwmabire3; 02-10-2009 at 12:45 AM.

Well let's see. We've had quite a few over the years.
My son Michael named named his beagle Luka Brasi after the "Godfather" movie character. I always pictured that dog wearing a fedora and a cigar in his mouth...LOL Then my son Anthony named our Husky, Cosmo Kramer after the Seinfeld character. We had a chow-chow my hubby named "Bogie" after Humphrey Bogart. I named one of my cats Brooklyn, after my old neighborhood. Also had an all white cat named Casper, and an all black cat mamed Nathan after a close friend of mine who was African-American. We were close enough that he understood the humor behind it
We don't have any of them anymore because of my hubby's asthma/allergies
, but I really do miss them all. Cosmo especially was close to my heart
He had beautiful blue eyes that were so expressive. It was like you could look at him and tell what he was feeling.

Lesse: Pipi we asked DD what she wanted to name the new puppy and she yelled out Pie! So we took out the last letter and now we refer to her as 3.14 just to throw people off.
Warrior: may not seem so weird but he is named after the Ultimate Warrior from wrestling my mom's favorite wrestler of all time.

my cat's name is Dr Bunsen Honeydew
He is a rescue cat and I just couldn't come up with a name for him for the longest time. One of my friends looked at him and said he looked like another cat she knew called Bunsen (after the muppets character).
She also had influence on another one of my pet's names. When i was 11, I got a cockatiel and named it Dipthong (what can I say, I was a nerd then and I'm a nerd now). Dipthong's name was shortened to Dippy over the years. Then one day, my friend said, Oh, I thought his name was "Bob". Suddenly, Dippy became Bob. Then one day (despite being told that the bird was male), Bob laid an egg! Bob became "Bobbie". So Bobbie it was until her death at the ripe old age of 23.

One of our dogs was named Akia. I was taking a Greek Mythology course at the time and I think greeks were called Achians. My hubby liked it, but wanted to spelle it Akia. The other dog was named Magena. She was an Alaskan Malamute. I had looked in a baby book and it was a native american name that meaned Howls at the moon (or something with moon). I loved it. It fit her.

I don't own a dog myself, but I have basically adopted the neighbors dog. They let him run loose and he sleeps outside my house and always is around when I am outside. I actually like it because I feel like he is protecting me lol. I know...it's absurd.
His name is Rolo. He is a golden retriever and is the color of caramel so I guess that they named him Rolo because he looks like caramel.

Well, a couple of ours came with the names when we adopted them. They were two and six yrs old, respectively when we got them so we didn't change their names...Macy (sable sheltie) and Carmen (lab). Carmen actually had a middle name, Miranda.
The others...
Topper (blue merle sheltie) - a variation on "Top" which is what soldiers call their First SGT. Dh was a 1SGT when we got him.
Caspi (maine coon cat) - is named after my youngest son's heart surgeon. Dr. Caspi at Children's Hospital of New Olreans fixed him up. We had another cat named for his other surgeon "Petitte". But he got sick and died a few years ago
I used to joke that his name was also "Pet It" because the vets always pronounced his name Petite (as in tiny).
Poncho (maine coon cat) - Poncho is another name for Pontiac & dh had a Pontiac Firebird at the time. His usernames all over were "PonchoDriver".
(We had a "TwoTone" who we had to put down last year, maine coon cat. He was named such because his face around his mouth was half brown/half white)
Maggie (maine coon kitten) - dd's kitty. She says it's short for Magic Rainbow. I say it's short for Magnum. Not only is she a pistol, but her parents' names were "Ammo" and "Buckshot"
Emi (tri-color sheltie) - she's named after my mom, who made it possible for us to get her. Mom's middle name is Emily

I don't know if this is an "odd" name but Little Girl was called this because when she was a stray and came over with her one kitten (who was killed by a car according to the neighbourhood kids) I used to call her Little Girl to get her attention to come to our porch for her to eat. It's hard to believe that was 14 years ago!
