Default Would This Idea Be A Safe One???

I have a question that I know my vet would jump on me for asking....has anyone ever gave their dog only 1/2 of their heartworm pill a month instead of a whole pill? And if you have, did it do just as well as it would have if you were to give the whole pill?? Thanks

I would check this out on-line.

Part of it would depend on the size of the dog. "They" are already saying that we over-vaccinate them. You could ask the vet to do the blood work but that is costly too.

There are lots of ways to cut expenses, but halving medications for people or pets is not one of them in my opinion.

Um...I'm not really comfortable with this. Certainly check with your vet, however, your health or the health of those you love isn't something I'd fool around with.

I wouldn't cut back on it! That could have deadly consequences! You can certainly ask your vet! But I don't think it's a good idea at all!

My opinion is instead of saving half your money you would be wasting all of your money because you would get no protection. Paying for preventative care provides a good return on your investment since treatment is much more costly. I would make sure to use the correct dosage for your dogs weight.

I think there would be no way of knowing that unless your dog got heartworm. I don't know if you know about this site but there is a site Drs Fosters & Smith to order heartworm from cheaper. You have to pay shipping but what I did was order for 1 year. Your vet also has to write a prescription for it.

Well i don't know about cutting the dosage, but we have always bought the heartworm and flea preventatives for dogs 45lbs and then split them between my two smaller dogs. I've been doing this for years and no problems!

If your vet advises against this, check around for a better price. My sister and I buy online and it costs about HALF what the vet's office charges.
