Default I am such a bad puppy mommy

Friday I go to give the pooches a bath, and notice that Bella has a large mat on her shoulder to under her ear! This dog has NEVER had a mat. And I couldn't work it out SO much to my dismay, we would have the shave her.

So Saturday, I do the deed. Leave her legs long, and a full head and a poofy stubby tail. She's a looks like a cross between poodle and westie..lol.

Then I figure, well, have everything set up, lets give Gizmo a trim. WELL>.. it ends up that Giz is nearly one HUGE mat! Her hair is so dense I wasn't getting deep enough to comb her out. So shaved her down, left a bushy tail and gave her a mohawk.

I feel so bad because they are nekkid and winter is coming.

Here are the girls....(They are getting new jackets, I'm drafting them tomorrow).

Things like that happen. Don't beat yourself up over it. They will love their new coverings, I am sure.

I have a Chow Chow, and I have yet to find anything that will keep him tangle free. I even spent $30 at the advice of my vet on a "Furminator," and it only works great on the non-tangled areas (basically, his back)!! Between the rake and the slicker, I can keep MOST of the burrs from becoming permanent additions to his undercoat, but I completely sympathize with you.

I had a Bishon once and I groomed her to save some money. She was so funny because I think she thought I gave her a normal hair cut like the groomers do, like I did for humans for a living...but somehow she hated me for it. lol

I had a very long hair cat that I tried to do my best to keep up with the hair and mats. I felt really bad for it but it's not your fault. This happens with companion animals.

Mommy4ever, I know for a fact that you are a wonderful puppy mommy for sure.

I had to use a 10 blade to be able to get under the mats, with minimal irritation to the dogs.

The white one is Bella, her hair is SO thin that now you can see her grey skin. Gizmo is actually brown black and white, but now looks grey(And old, she isn't even 1 year old yet..lol)

Can feel your pain. Once when trimming my late dogs hair I somehow managed to cut to close. Leaving a patch of no hair. So instead of just letting the hair grow back I took him to the groomers and had him shaved. It was only then that I say how scrawny he was. But he seemed really happy about the new do. People asked if I got a new dog. lol

I have to really watch the bottom part of Oreo's ears. His hair matts much easier and worse than the girl......he can get matts just overnight, depends on how he sleeps on his ears.

The hair will grow quickly........I always give mine a short 'do' about this time of year and that will take us up to until about Xmas before I have to cut them down again.

I have three shaggy little dogs and sometimes I don't stay ahead of the mats so I bought a tool that cuts the mats enough I can comb most of it out and still leave enough hair that they look ok. It's called a matbreaker and its well worth the cost.
