My dog got into some burrs
My dog Katie got out of our yard today - she managed to get under the fence. She was gone for half an hour, during which I was totally panicking. Some kids found her blocks away and recognized her. She was so scared! Katie was a breeder in a puppy mill before we got her so she has not been out in the big wide world too much, so when the neighbor boy carried her home (what a sweet kid) she was shaking like a leaf.
During her adventure she must have gotten into some tall grass. Her fur is totally full of burrs. I have already combed for nearly an hour and she still has tons.
Any suggestions? I thought about bathing her but I'm afraid that might make it worse.
She is a miniature schnauzer and I had been letting her coat grow for winter, so it is wavy and about an inch and a half long.

If you can't brush them out, you will either have to cut her hair or take her to the dog groomer and have them do it.

will the groomer be able to use the clippers on her with all these burrs?

They should! They might not like you after they are done. I would call and ask what they recommend you do BEFORE you take her in.

The 3 of us just pinned the doggie down on the couch and picked burrs off her for another hour. We got maybe 95% of them off now.
She was so good about it too, what a sweet little girl she is. I'd like to hope that she will not try to escape the yard again, but that might be overly optimistic.
Thanks for the input Savvy. I may still have to get her buzzed tomorrow and you are right, I will call first!

Do you have a wire slicker brush and some hair detangler? I would brush her gently with that. We have a min. schnauzer and I think that would work.

I am using the wire brush but I did not think of detangler! Great idea!

Why did she escape? Doesn't sound like something she would do. Perhaps this experience will be enough to keep her home. It was very sweet of that boy to carry her home - you have some good neighbors!!
I never would have thought of using a detangler either.
Good luck!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Maui, His sweetness has something to do with my pretty 14 year old daughter, lol. He has the BIGGEST crush on her and has
for over a year now.
I found where she got out and until I can fix it she is going to be on a long lead when she is out back doing her business.
