anyone else have a fish aquarium?
I forget what size our tank is. 30? I think that's right.
We went years without one (tank sat in the basement collecting dust), but set it back up recently when we moved the office. I really missed it and have been enjoying it a lot. Then again, it's the pet that Gabe cares for and I care for all the others.
Anyway, our tank is just community fish. I have live plants and it's been great for me to decrease stress.
Last night I was looking in the tank and said hey, one clown loach is gone. I wondered if our cat got him. So I looked for like 10 minutes. Then Gabe looked. Nope. Gone.
So just before I posted this, I looked and oh my..he's baaaaack. LMAO
I guess he was hiding, but I can't imagine where because we even moved all the hiding spots last night to see if he went in and died.
While setting up an aquarium isn't the most frugal of decisions, fish make wonderful gifts and they aren't terribly expensive. My kids love picking out their own fish for the aquarium. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I don't anymore but did for about 15 years. They are so soothing.....I had angel that got as big as the palm of my hand...it lived about 3 years. (got it at Wal mart for like $2) Went into major mourning when he/she died.
We actually had a little crab once that climbed out and crawled into Barry's boot during the night. He found it when he crammed his foot into it in the mourning.....oops.
We really enjoyed the fish tank....but I grew tired of the maintenance.

We had an aquarium too until last year. I loved it! Those clown loach was a doll, one of my favorites and he grew huge! He was longer than the size of my hand when we gave him away. We also had dempseys that grew as large as a small walleye.

I am glad that you are enjoying them so much. I believe they thrive on it!

We used to have a 50 gallon aquarium and it was beautiful. I loved the colors, the sound of the filter and the lights.
I agree it can be high maintenance.

I've had aquariums off and on all my life. I set up a couple several years ago when I was doing chemotherapy, and enjoyed them, but eventually gave them to the children and senior centers at one of our hospitals. Just too high maintenance. I have hauled enough water for a lifetime, and hose gadgets never fit my faucets. But they are wonderful.
Gouramis were my favorites. So calm. Oh, and the busy little cory cats -- they're a delight.Donna
