We lost our baby girl!

A little over five years ago, DH rescued a miniature dachshund when it was about 3 months old. She was not just a pet, she was our baby girl! She was very special to us. She even slept with us. I said she was more human than animal. Anyway, Friday evening, I let her outside to go potty. A few minutes later DH came home from work. While pulling in the drive, she made a mad dash to see him and he did not see her. She came running out from under our son's truck. Unfortunately, he hit her. She tried to get up and was wagging her tail like she was ok, but we knew different. We were not sure if she would survive or not, but we called our vet and we rushed her there for emergency surgery. All the way there, she would look up at me and I would tell her to hang on. The vet started the surgery and placed her on an IV. She told us to go ahead and leave and they would watch her overnight. We were not home 15 minutes when the vet called to say she did not make it. Our whole family is lost without her. We have another dachshund, but she isn't Sassy. Sassy was special!!

Saturday, I had to go pay the vet bill of $423 and decide what to do with her. That was a sad moment because I would have loved to bring her back home to run. I did not care how much it cost because I would have done anything for her. DH is distraught. He keeps beating himself up over it. I keep telling him that it was not his fault. It was an accident. I do believe that Sassy was his best friend. They were always together. She kept him company while I did my school work.

Oh, wow, Michelle, I am so sorry. I know your other dog isn't Sassy, but she probably misses her, too, and is sharing in your grief, in her own way.

Oh my - I wish there was something more I could do than just say I am sorry and send you a hug.

It 'seems' like it is so much harder when the loss is a fast surprise. Never easy, no matter how you have lost the pet. Allow yourself to grieve is the only way to get through this dark tunnel - been there, done that!

My Ex ran our cat over the same way and it was hard on him too, and we were very sad for a while. I hope your Dh can forgive himself it was an accident.
