Ours run the house w/ the exception of our bedroom. I do not like a furry bed.Plus I cannot rest if cats are prowling at night.
At my other house I used to put them in the bsmt at night. A chant w/ clapping and they all went in the bsmt. This bsmt is wetter and unfortunatly backup occasionally so I can't do that.
And it goes w/o saying -no counters of my DH's work office desk.

Same rules but the dog isn't allowed upstairs or he will eat the cats food. Have to watch him in the kitchen by the garbage also.

My dogs don't try to get on the counters, so that's not an issue. My male dog is not allowed upstairs because, for some strange reason, after we finally got flooring installed up there, he thought of it as outdoors ;-). Other than that, the two dogs are allowed everywhere. If we leave during the day, they are kept out of the bathrooms, bedrooms and closets.

My guy (100 lb boxer) has free roam. He wasn't allowed in our living room in our old apartment and we could gate it but now in the house with open concept we can't keep him out of there and I can't "lock" him in a room. Its a microfiber couch and he has short white hair so we are CONSTANTLY vacuuming the couch. Thing is we have the family room that he doesn't even THINK about going near that couch. He isn't allowed in our bed at night, but as soon as DH leaves for work in the morning he jumps in bed with me---IN DH'S spot wooops!

He is my big baby and I wouldn't have it any other way.

She's not allowed on the counters, the home entertainment equipment, tables, or some of the fancier furniture. I'm sure she doesn't care once we are out of the house, though.

Yes, I have the run of the house. The pets allow me to go anywhere in their house. They own the place, I'm just the staff.

We have one spoiled dog who has her own sofa in the TV room and a toddler bed in our room, so she isn't allowed on our furniture. Her sofa is bigger than the one that DH and I share.

Pets are fun to spoil because it doesn't ruin them. They're babies their whole lives.

My cats don't listen to a darn thing I say. They are not allowed on the kitchen counter or the table. I'm sure every time I'm not around, that is the first place they would probably like to take a nap at. *sigh*They also think my bed is their bed too.

Two cats - I have a split level ranch and they are not allowed in the upstairs bathroom or any bedrooms. I just think they have enough places to roam and the more space they have the more area they have to barf on the light colored carpet, or pee or something. If I see them on the tables or counters, I shoo them off, but I know full well at night or when I'm not home they are on there.

I started to reply to this and it became super huge and rambling so here's my condensed version:

yes if I am home, with certain doors shut if no one is in them.

No if I am gone, and I have different scenarios depending on why I'm gone and for how long.

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

The cats are allowed just about anywhere except the dining room table and the kitchen surfaces. The dogs are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. Their claws poke holes in the upholstery and given free reign upstairs they would 1) drive the cats nuts and 2) be destructive/naughty.

We only have two guinea pigs, they are pooping machines and it's supposed to be very difficult to litter train them, so no free range cavies in this house. They do get 'floor time' in two small pet playpens linked together, followed by a quick vaccuum and mopping when they're back in their real cage.
