Your pets have the run of the house?
My pets are allowed just about everywhere except for tables and counters. To me areas where food is prepared and eaten is just no place for critters.
What are the rules in your house?~*Darlene*~

We have the same rule here. Our cat, Jazz, is allowed anywhere in our apartment, except the kitchen counters. (If we had a kitchen table, that would be off-limits as well.)

Yes, I have the run of the house. The pets allow me to go anywhere in their house.
They own the place, I'm just the staff.
They go anywhere but the tables and counters.Russ

They have the run of the house for the most part. They are not allowed on tables or counters. I hate shedding season.

Used to be they had the run of the house.. they both sleept in my bed one at my feet and the other by my back).. but when we figured out we had tick problem.... then a flea problem.... we bought a baby gate and they now have to sleep downstairs and are only aloud upstairs when they get a bath. they were not thrilled at first the first week they sat at bottom of stairs and howled and cried all night but they are now used to it and dont give me any grief. even when we go to stay at gramas somethimes they will come upstairs but will sleep on the floor next to the bed.

YEOW! Reading the other posts makes me feel like I am mean and strict...
......and am sure my 'kids' would agree.
I have my dad's old (recovered) rocking chair that they are not allowed on at all. The aren't allowed in my bedroom.........unless invited (which is seldom, but does happen)......this helps with allergies and had to start it with my 'little black girl' as an 'alpha rule' when she was a puppy. (she is my problem child!!)
They don't like to go down in the my basement........which is fine with me. Oreo (little white boy) just WON'T.......and Muff (little black girl) only does if I am down there too long.
Also, right now, they aren't allowed in the garage as I have just set out about 10 mouse traps.
The rest of the house (and furniture) is theirs.........except tables, etc. of course.
They are kenneled at night or when I leave the house.Last edited by frugalfranny; 09-21-2010 at 04:43 PM.

Ok, funny story first. We had a collie for 14 years. She was no good at staying off of the furniture and eventually, the couch was free game for her to be on...but she wasn't allowed on the new(er) rocker/recliner. During the daytime, fine...she wouldn't go near it. One time, my dad (the one who REALLY didn't want her on the chair) got up in the middle of the night, and went out to the family room. The chair was rocking back and forth, and the dog was laying in her "room" (area by the back door/laundry room) which is someplace she NEVER went and was only put if she was in trouble, or too muddy to come in the house. Clever animal...lol
Our kitten isn't *supposed* to get on the counters, but honestly, I can't stop him. I know he does it when I'm not home, because he manages to get up on top of the cabinets (see picture.) Plus, he has this strange obsession with the sinks, tub and toilet. I don't know what I'm going to do about him....

Not allowed in the kitchen, dining room, butlers pantry or the deck.Pit sleeps with us, chow heads outside, min pin goes in his kennel( did have min pin sleeping with us, but when DH moves he stands up and growls at him.) Our pets are spoiled, but they have their own areas. Cats spend most of their time in the sunroom.

anywhere except the food working surfaces. The cats can be un on the chest freezer. I have their food up there because otherwise the dog would slurp it all up in an instant. But they stay off the other counters. (helps that it isn't in the kitchen i guess.)
Dogs are kennelled at night and when company is coming over. I don't like the dogs on the furniture either. now and then they might sneak a nap up on the couch. It's ok if they just had a bath, but NOT if they have been outside playing in the dirt.

I thought I would be the only strict "parent" The animals are not allowed on furniture, tables, counters, etc. They can use the floor in any room. lol We use the door first(I'm the alpha "dog"), but they can come if called. We do have doggie beds in the front room and the bedroom.

Ours are allowed all over the house except the guest bedroom. Our beagle is allowed on some furniture but not our big lab. They each have their own bed with pillows and sheets for summer and blankets for winter.

Ours are allowed in every room. Obviously, we do not let them get on the counters we prepare food on. But, there is a counter between the fridge and wall that is not connected to any other counter and that is the cats' food station. That particular counter is in such an odd place that we do not use it for anything, is completely across the room from where we do our food prep and cooking, plus access to that counter is partially blocked when the kitchen door is open. Our dogs will eat the cat food if it is not up high.
Dogs each have a bed in the front living room and one in our bedroom. Although, the little Jack Russell sleeps in bed with DH and I every night and the Weimeraner sleeps in our bed a few nights a week. They can get on any peice of furniture they want. They don't have fleas or other parasites and spend less than 30 minutes a day outside. They go out, do their biz and come right back in about four times a day. The cats never go outside and have a carpeted cat tree to play on by a window.
The cats sleep wherever it strikes their fancy that particular night. For the past few weeks our 17 year old cat has been sleeping on a side table in the bathroom. In the winter, she sleeps on my back. The other cat has been sleeping in a basket of papers I have waiting to be shredded. Before that he was sleeping on a chair. In the winter he will get under the covers and sleep up against me. Yep, there are winter nights when it is DH, a 22 lb Jack Russell, a 76 lb Weimeraner, 2 cats and me in a king size bed.DD (19)

Mine are not allowed on the counters, bathroom, and closets. Needless to say, bathroom and closets are very interesting to them. One seems to like the bathroom rug alot. I will literally move her with my foot and she will roll back into the bathroom.
Other than that they have the run of the place. For some reason they have no interest to go on the kitchen counters. They probably just wait until I leave for the day. lol

i have 4 yorkies...
they have run of the house...unless im sleeping or gone.. 3 are crated..with nice comfy sheep skins..the other one will run n hide if you try to lock her up..shes older and set in her ways...but she will tinkle on anything carpet related..so i have a good shampooer available all the time..
my male and my youngest pup jump in the bed if we are in it and if they arent sent to "bed" yet..and they are the sweetest cuddlers...so are the other two they just dont get on the bed..they cuddle on the sofas with us..
the like the cold floors too..
they go out off n on through out the day to tinkle...then come back in..no kitchen counters or tables..but their crate is in the kitchen next to my stockpile shelf
sometimes i get strick on them..if someone has accidents (other then the older girl) ill crate them more often and take them right out until they are better..
