    Default My dog is sick.

Cinnamon is sick last night he had diarrhea and vomit all over, the carpet, the bed etc. So he seemed fine all day, tired, but still barked at the door when he heard someone and tried to get out and run in the hallway when I brought in the grocerys. Around 6 he had more diarrhea, and there was a little bit of blood in it. I called the vet and they said they had no appointments for tonight to take him to the afterhours vet. I told them I am on disability and that they know the afterhours vet won't even look at him unless I pay 145 up front and that does not included anything else they might do. She told me to borrow the money from someone. I hung up and called my mom in tears, asking what I should do, because I wasn't going to borrow the money, she said call back and make an appointment for tomorrow and I will take you and help out with what I can. I called got a different women on the phone explained the whole thing again. So he is going at 9:40 tomorrow.
I gave him some rice a few table spoons and am making sure he is drinking. He still seems pretty tired though. I am so mad because this vet has called me more then once to see if I could cancel my appointment because someone came in with a sick pet. This is the second time they told me to go to the afterhours vet. I had no choice the first time my cat was very sick with an upper tract infection and she could hardly breath. that alone cost me 240.
I know that having a pet is expensive and can cost alot from time to time. I always have money that I put aside every month just in case. I have high anxiety and having pets helps a lot. I am so worried, my mom said try not to worry that he might of just ate something or picked up something. She knows that having a dog has done wonders for my mental health and said she would help out.

Sounds like cochsidia (not spelled right) which is an amoebic parasite. The diarrhea will really smell bad w/ irony undertones. I had three dogs w/ it at once and OH the smell. They can get malnutritioned and anemic if it is not treated. It's a simple fix w/ meds. Tomorrow should be soon enough. Try not to worry.

So Cinnamon has Colitis, they game me some meds for 10 days. Said to keep him on rice and hamburger for the next few days and switch him back to his dog food. They said if it happens again wait 24 to 48 hours and put him back on a bland diet and if after that time he is still bad bring him back in to get more meds. Thanks everyone for the support.

I should also say that he possible has black skin disease, he has Luxating Patella for sure, he hasn't had any problems since is was under a year though for that. All of which are hereditary conditions including the colitis. My ex got him for me after I lost a baby three years ago from a pet store. He is a pomeranian schnauzer cross. Does anyone have a similar breed with similar problems and what do you find is the best method for treating them naturally?
The Vet today also said he has a low heart rate for a small dog, but it hasn't changed in all the times they have seen him so it is nothing to worry about.

the blood is from the strain of vomiting and diarrhea

This is what I do as well, ( bold emphasized by me)! You can also feed a tiny bit of pure coconut oil ( food grade not cosmetic) which is an antiseptic, and has antibacterial properties as well as good for worm or parasite infections.

Luxating Patella is very painful and your dog will need surgery to correct it. My Border Collie had surgery to repair his knee 3 years ago and you'd never know he had a problem. At the least your dog will need pain meds until he gets surgery.

Good to hear you were able to figure out what was going on with your dog. It can be frustrating to try and help your pet only to hear the vet say they have no more appointments and that you have to wait to see them. Especially when all you want is have them be seen right away.

I hope you dog gets well soon. Next time you are at the vet ask if they give discounts for people on disability. Mine does and I always remind them about the discount. You can even call around to see what vets do give a discount.
