Default animal lovers will be happy to hear. . . . .

While adopting our new baby yesterday someone brought in a dog to give up. They charged them $40 to do so. It was a young couple and they didn't even act upset.

Sad isn't it? Animals are just disposable.

Our CL is loaded with all sorts of animals....from dogs/cats to
    ferrets, chickens and bunnies.

Especially love the ones that say "we just don't have the time to spend with them"................
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Makes me sick....it's so sad that people adopt a puppy, ruin it with a lck of training and give it away to be someone else's problem.

My dog from the shelter was listed as a stray. No way. This dog had perfect manners and has never left our yard since we got her. She was sweet and calm, but timid and absoulutely fabulous with kids. I think she was turned in as a *Stray* by someone who didn't want to pay a surrender fee. No way someone would not be looking for this dog if she was lost.....

dg while looking for a dog to adopt I went to the animal shelter near me to see this dog. It was like a kangaroo it was jumping up and down so much. I couldn't even get it into the pen to visit. This dog is exactly how you described; no one took time to train it and then dump it off at the animal shelter. When I got home I was covered in mud from head to toe.
Yesterday I just drove 1 hour and 45 minutes one way to adopt my dog. I was soooo afraid I was going to get lost, but thanks to mapquest I made it!!!

Pam! I'm so HAPPY for you! I know how much you wanted to have a dog.

Worse part about that jumping dog is that it's so easy to fix, in fact it's about the easiest of bad behaviors to tame. I'm not sure what people are thinking when they don't curb that behavior from day 1, it's never cute, I don't care how little the dog is.

This is truely sad! But I think of it this way it is better then them taking him/her and throwing him into the street to fend for its self! There was a case here where a woman saw a car throw a 4 week old kitten into the middle of a busy intersection in Naples Florida...!.. She ended up ok but with some internal bruising and burned pads.... people are SO CRUEL

It's very upsetting. I guess at least those animals have a chance of being rehomed with people who will look after them properly.

Thanks, Polly. My ds said he is happy I got one too because he knows how long I've been looking.
I didn''t think I could even handle that dog to train him. He did get adopted in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully by someone who will take the time to train him.
Soooo agree with you about bad behavior. My new dog is very large and does seem to have been trained some, but I'm still going to work with him to make him better especially because of his size.
I still have not figured out how to post pics. Russ posted a pic of him where he posted his new dog or if you would like he is on petfinder. You have to go to the second page to be able to type his name Whisk.

Oh Pam, I didn't mean you should have taken him to train. I only meant that he will have a harder time getting someone to even be interested in him because you can't get past his excitement to see his true personality. It's a pretty easy fix really, but it would not be the dog for me either. I'm pretty mellow and require my pets to be too, just would not have been a good fit. Sometimes I wish there was tone of voice on text, I've written a few things that at times come out not sounding at all like they sounded in my head, or heart.

Yes, big dogs need to be trained. I think you're right to continue the path he started on.

I'm going to go look for him

Well, at least they didn't just abandon the dog. They knew enough to take it to a shelter where it could get care. The best cat I ever had was a "stray". A neutered and housebroken "stray" with collar marks that lived in our yard until I took him in. I had to turn a dog into animal control this winter because it was starving and running loose and none of the shelters would take him. God knows where it's previous owners were.

I typed in Golden Retriever and zip 48088, hit enter and on that page on the left side down a bit there will be a spot for the name. Type in Whisk.
I didn't take offense about the dog, I just wanted to explain. I'm not as young as I used to be and the excitement of that dog was just too much. AND I know what you mean about tone of voice on text; I've gotten myself into trouble a few times because of it too!! LOL
