    Default Trying again....

    Most of you animal lover will remember Zeke, the collie we adopted and then gave back. An update: Zeke is in a new home in the country with two small children, where he is the only dog. So far he is fitting in beautifully. Hopefully this works well for him and his new family.

    The girls have been pleading for another dog. Katie, our schnauzer, is nearly 11 years old. She is a master cuddler but not much of a play-with-me dog. So today we adopted another dog. If this doesn't work out I give up on owning more than one dog at a time. Hopefully no one will think I am wretched for giving up one pet and then going and getting another.

    Anyhow, meet ******. We haven't agreed on a name yet. She came with the name Bella, which is the name of a family friend's daughter, so we were thinking of changing it. She is a 10 month old Goldendoodle puppy. She's very sweet, not much of a barker and pretty mellow if she is not at the park.

    When I checked them out together I did things a little differently. Instead of making sure they merely tolerated each other I pushed them together a bit more. This time, Katie made inroads to play, doing the little doggie bow and hopping around. The pup just loved it and then next thing you know, she had all four up in the air so Katie could sniff her belly. So if I understand this correctly, it means that she was submissive to Katie.

    Once we got home, the dogs seemed pretty interested in sitting together. Here is a cute photo of "the girls".

    Fingers crossed for us!

    Oh - names on the table are:

    Stella

    Cinderella (ugh)

    Grace - Gracie

    Ellie

    Penelope

    Garcia

    We had definitely planned on rhyming with Bella since she knows her name, but holy cow, doesn't she look like a Gracie to you???

    I love people names for dogs. Your dog is beautiful. I looked for over 2 months for a golden retriever. I was having a hard time finding one close enough and reasonable enough. I still wound up driving almost 4 hours total to get him. I got an all black dog that looks like a golden retriever except of course the color. He is taller than a golden too. They named him Whisk for Whiskey sooo I changed it. He was such a gentleman not running us over to go past us so I named him Beau.

    She is beautiful! I am so glad they seem to be getting along. Before I read that you liked the name Gracie, I had already picked that one out! It seems to suit her perfectly.

    The only way I know how to post pics is through a photosharing website (I use photobucket - it's free). There used to be a button where you could download it right from your computer but I can't find it anymore.

    Nice dog and it looks promising. Time will tell as she gets more comfy. And how about ELLA that rhymes. I do like Gracie too.
    Don't laugh but we gave our dog her original name as a middle name. Lilly wasn't good for me for a G.Sheperd.lol
    So now Greta lilly.
    Here's praying for ya. Oh,and buy a good comb/brush set.

    She is definitely a Gracie.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”
    — From a translation of an inscription on
    an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

    God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
    courage to change the things I can,
    and the wisdom to know the difference

    You should not feel bad about giving your dog to a home where they fit better, not matter what some people might say. If you are doing what's best for them, that is what you should do as a good pet owner.
    Just a tip: I would recommend feeding them separately for a while, as this is one of the most common areas where dogs get territorial. I also have two dogs that were adopted separately. It took a little adjusting, but they both get along great now. (Actually, they are snuggled up on the couch with me, each laying their head on my arm as I *attempt* to type.)
