I think my Brandi (dog) has cancer, taking her to the vet(UPDATED)
Hi All,
Our beloved dog Brandi is 11 years old and has been losing weight for the past 2 months. At first I thought she was just losing her winter weight (she normally chunks up during the winter), but she continued to lose more. Within the last month she has lost quite a bit. I found a large mass on her tummy on Saturday and she is having trouble walking. She is in pain and has lost her "spark". I talked to the vet this morning and told her what was going on (first time seeing this vet with her) and the vet thinks it may be cancer also. We may have to put her down today, but we will not know that until after our appointment.
I just bawled on the phone talking to the vet. I told her that I wanted to have Brandi put down if it was cancer since she is in pain. The vet told me she would not put the dog down unless it was a quality of life thing and we talked about it together first. I totally agreed with her. So...we go in later this afternoon unless the vet can arrange to get us in sooner. I'm just heartbroken at the thought of loosing our Brandi, but even more so at the thought of her suffering and being in pain.
Please pray for Brandi and for us. Our whole family is so upset. We've prayed for healing for her numerous times and asked God that if He chooses not to heal her, then to please let her be out of her pain. This is one of the harder days of my life. Thanks.

Sending you a hug Debbie. It's so hard to see your sweet dog in pain and so hard to let go.

I'm praying for Brandi. I have found that God cares so much for animals. He is always faithful.

I have tears in my eyes just reading your post- I get pretty emotional when our cats are sick. We thought one had cancer a while back, too, but it turned out to be something else, thank goodness. Hang in there.

UPDATE:
Brandi did have cancer and it had spread through her body.
We had to have her put down this afternoon. The vet was so kind to us and helped us get through it all. She told us that if we ever got another female dog to get her spayed before she turned 6 months old and that would almost guarantee that she would not get this form of doggie breast cancer. She also reassured me that by the time we started seeing the symptoms, that it was too late, so not to be hard on myself or feel guilty.
Our other dog is just having a rough time and is looking all over for Brandi. I've tried to keep Piddle closer to me and give her extra attention, but this is going to be really hard on her. She tends to be a "crier" and I know that we'll be hearing her tonight. I'd let her stay in the house for the night, but she doesn't like being inside for too long.
Thanks for all you prayers, love and support. You've helped me through a really rough day.

Oh Debbie I'm so sorry to hear this news
I had to have my Boxer put down last year and it is very hard for all the family.
The very worst part of having pets is the end, they are so much a part of the family and so loyal.
I'm sure you are happy that she is no longer in any pain but I know at this time it is only little consolation.
to you all!
Just a thought: I don't know if this will help??? (It may not) When we got one of our puppies it missed it's family terribly and cried ALL the time. My vet advised us to tie it in it's bed at night and put a hot water bottle and alarm clock in with her. (the alarm clock sounds like mothers heart beat) I realise this was a puppy but maybe it could work???
Many
again ~ you are in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry Debbie, I too have been there and it is never easy. Know in your heart you did what was best for Brandi and she will always be with you.

Oh Debbie.....2 years ago this August we had to have our best friend Bandy put down due to abdominal cancer. She had been sick for months and we knew that we were facing doing the hard thing but just couldn't do it. The morning she wouldn't get out of her pet taxi to go outside I knew it was the time to make the call. We did it and it was the hardest thing I've had to do, to date. Our old cat and she were best friends and the old cat is mourning to this day. We thought for a while we'd lose her too. Even though she isn't the same and has lost a lot of weight she continues to hold her own. She does still sit on Bandy's grave though......really, really sad.
I hope you heal sooner rather than later.

Debbie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I just recently...this month even...lost one of my dogs too. Its never easy, but the other dogs help me with some of the heartache.
