    Talking Gifted with GS

I ahve been given (yes, given!) two German Shepherd brothers, 12 months old, desexed, partly trained. They have a fixation with each other, having been forcibly separated once, and not wanting to be so again.

After three weeks, they finally are really beginning to respond to me. It has taken a lot of hard work and some bruising (of me, not the GS!), but it's working PTL!

It's such a joy to have it all going as it should, and they are a delightful pair!

    Just thought I'd share this.

Oh, and if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be delighted to hear from you! I'm the only one who can train them, and I WILL NOT permanently separate them.

Crunchy, I'm thrilled to hear that it's finally going well for you. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to train dogs, especially if they hadn't had any training and they are into their teenage years....(?). I hope it continues to go well.
The only suggestion I have is about a book that my dd got to help her with her rescued boxer (who was also a teenager when she got her---had evidently been abused as well). I think it's called the Dog Whisperer (sorta like the Horse Whisperer...you saw that movie right?). Anyway, I'll email dd and ask. She just got the book but said it's really great.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Congratulations Leonie! Give them an extra little hug from me. I'm glad they are together and happy with you!

    Thanks, Ladies,

They are coming along beautifully, but any hints and tips would be most appreciated.

I went to GermanShepherds.com, and joined up specifically to get advice, but most of the advice was to get rid of one or both of them. As if! What sort of a negative, non-Christian attitude is that? One said I'd be doing the dogs a favour! Like, yahhh! So I very politely told them that I would persevere, and it's working. Of course. Dogs always reward the effort one puts in.
