Talking Update!!! Kitty had her babies!!

Kitty had her babies this morning while I was taking hubby to work. I got home and she came a runnin, blood all over her tail and that watermelon of a belly gone. Took me a few minutes to find her "spot". She had them under my son's bed. As much as I can see, she's had 4 of them. She let me clean her up alittle, feed her and hold her for a few minutes. She's feeding them now and all appear alive. They look to be all black and white from what I can see. I was hoping for at least one like her...She's got them way up under the bed by the head of the bed, but my son's room is small and we have 2 beds that are foot to foot placed. So I can't move the bed or matress to get a better look. All I can do is get down on the floor and shine a flashlight. Just as well I guess, that way the kids can't get to them either.

Well just wanted to let you girls know she had them and any advice about any of this would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest she may not use the box you have ready for her, they tend to liketo make their own spots. We had one lie down in front of the tv and start having them afterwards she moved them to a big iron pot behind the tv..not the most comfortble spot. ANother had hers under the bed, usually there are no problems, just keep an eye on her her and make sure she's not scared.

I agree with Angie, she probably will not use the spot you have ready. Ours had hers in the litter box! Yep I had to clean up the newborn, the poor thing was covered in litter.

Do watch her for straining and producing nothing. Ours had her first one by herself, but the second one had to be a c-section, she was too small to give birth to him.

She will probably start really patroling the house looking for a good out of the way spot where she feels protected when she is ready. If you have small children, keep them away from her, she is in pain and can be nasty even if she is usually nice.

If she lets you, you can talk very quietly to her and pet her but they usually don't care for that.

She should immediately clean the babies and take care of them. If she doesn't in a reasonable amount of time, you may have to clean them up. Get a pan of luke warm water and gently clean then with a soft cloth. Make sure thier nose and mouth are cleaned of any mucus, but don't rub thier eyes they are sealed shut and will open on thier own in a week or two. Snuggle them up good in a towel to dry off and put them near her belly.

Keep them warm like an incubator. The best thing is mom of course but also when she is done fix up a cardboard box with rags and put a lamp above it. The heat from the lightbulb will help the babies stay warm.

Don't be surprised if she moves the babies frequently to protect them and also after they are born she will not stay in the same spot. The birthing process attracks predators in the wild so she will want to move them. She also may not eat very well the first few days, her priority are her babies.

Good luck, if you have any questions just ask, but you can also call your local vet for help if you need it. You may want to call them now before hand (and before they close for the day) if you have any questions. They are usually great about answering any questions you have even if you aren't a client of thiers.

Oh Dee, what a spot, the litter box! Poor baby! That must have been a bit traumatic for you and the baby to have to bathe the litter off him or her.

We had a cat once and it gave birth in the doorway and we had to keep stepping over them all until she moved them

I've got cute pics of kittens peeping out of boots and things - Still that's not very helpful is it? LOL.

I'd stick close to Dee, she's the kitty village expert.

I'll gladly see the pics when you got over the shock of being a mum though

I know Margery, it was Sidney and boy was he covered! All of our litter boxes have hoods so I guess she thought it was a good out of the way place. Good thing it was pretty clean when she went in there.

Don't forget to have her spayed in a few weeks or she will be pregnant AGAIN. A cat can have HUNDREDS of grandchildreni veyry short order. FWIW, also get your males neutered; they are half of the problem!

Thank you girls for the helpful info. Saved me a long distance phone call to my momma. LOL. She hasn't had her babies yet. She's been acting alittle different lately. She's always been a very personable kitty. Always wanting to be lap-held, "talks" to us, etc. Now she's wanting my to rub her belly all the time, going into corners she usually has no interest in, eating less and less each day it seems. I know it's soon, but I just can't wait to see them babies!! She's a siamese (not sure if she's a blue-point or a seal-point), but she has the look of a himilayn (sp?), she's not a short hair. I'll have hubby get some pics for me so you guys can see. We think she's had 2 males so, I'm not sure if it will be the black & white male or the orange and white tabby next door. Just hope she has atleast one like her! LOL. I will definitiely post when she has them though!

AWWWW....I can't wait to see those beautiful babies when they are born. I had to be with 2 of my cats that gave birth because they screamed if I left the room. The third on had her kittens uder the bed at night and not one heard anything out of her.
