Angry My male cat may being getting his own private quarters!!!

He may be moved out to the now vacant dog kennel and not be allowed in the house anymore. He has once again sprayed some books!!!! One of them was a very expensive one that I cannot afford to replace. We are trying to trim the bottom of the book off without getting rid of the pictures (it's an art book) and I'm hoping that works. He's been fixed and he still sprays!!!! No wonder this house smells yucky again! I just had to wash the curtians becasue he hit them too.

Debbie I think that once a cat starts that it's impossible to make em stop. My persian is an outdoor kitty b/c of that problem. Male cats will do it if you have more than one cat in the house....it's the *normal* thing for them to do to mark territories...even though we humans don't care for it much.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

I'm sorry Deb, I have to say in this I am lucky. Ralphie was doing it last year before we had him neutered and for a short time afterwards too (my squirt bottle helped a little). But I think it was because of Toby and his problems and then Olga and getting her pregnant. Now all my kids are spayed or neutered and Ralphie stopped doing this. I have 6 males and 4 females.

Skeeter is fixed and he still does this. He has been moved to outside except for the night when he is allowed to come in to sleep. He is not a happy camper at the moment, but as the we keep telling him "You Spray, You Pay!"

Ask your vet about sprays that are available for the home. A friend of mine was able to stop that habit by spraying something with a sour apple smell or something... humans cant smell it after 10 minutes or so but cats hate it.. she says it works...
Ive never had that problem, but then again, my boys have never been outside or around any unfamiliar smells.

    good luck

Spaying doesn't always work. My DH's cats were and they sprayed all over the place! Gomez has been fixed, but he never was a sprayer.

I've heard about the product Melissa mentions. I've also heard that it works. You can also ask your vet about pills that will relax him so that he doesn't have to mark his territory.

I'm sorry about the spraying luckily Festus never got that habit even before we had him fixed and he was a stray when we got him, of course he was still a kitten. The only manly thing he tries to do is..ummm...mount any animal that we try to bring into the house so I guess no new pets till he goes to the great beyond.

How old was your cat when you had him fixed? I have heard that once they reach a certain age, that a cat will continue to spray once he has started regardless of being fixed or not.
