My poor Nemo!!
NEVER, I repeat NEVER leave dental floss in the bathroom trashcan!!
I floss after brushing every morning & have always tossed the used floss into the small bathroom trashcan....
Recently Nemo has been very "momme-tight" and follows me around everywhere - including the bathroom....
He must've been more curious than usual this morning....
For the last few hours he's been laying here on my desk asleep...
Every so often, he's come to, coughed & hacked a little, then laid back down and went back to sleep....
I assumed he had a hairball or something....
A few minutes ago, he stood up, arched his back and let out the worst sounding cough I've ever heard and this little end piece of floss now hangs out of his mouth!! (ewwwww)
Being the not-even-slightly-squeamish nurse that I am (
) I called for Will!
We got the poor boy immobile (Nemo, not Will) and I grabbed the end of the floss and started pulling..... (
)
I haven't seen anything more gross since Zoe ate the tinsel off of the Christmas tree & it began emerging from the other end....
We eventually de-flossed Nemo and he's back asleep now...
Thank goodness it wasn't wrapped around his gizzard or something....
Poor guy....
Anyway - never leave anything pet level that you wouldn't want to pull out of them later!

Poor Nemo! I would never have thought of dental floss as being hazardous to a cat.

I'm glad you were able to get it out of him without any damage being done.
Nemo I have found that you have to watch cats better than little kids, they are fast!

We have one cat who eats rubber bands-- we have to be careful where we put the ones that come on the newspaper, because she will hunt for them and eat them.
