puppy help
Hi! I have a 10 week old shitzu puppy. She was given to me. She has bad fleas and hair mats. I have gotten her hair straight . But what can I do for the fleas? She is too little for everything I have looked at. I have been bathing her ever day to give her some relife. Any ideas please.

I read somewhere the other day that Dawn dishsoap will kill fleas. You might wanna try that, but then I'd rinse her conditioner of some sort b/c I think Dawn would really dry her little skin out. Otherwise you might splurge and take her to a groomer for the first time or 2. It's sad she has fleas so bad......have fun with that new furbaby!

Thank You ! I will try the dawn today. I took her to the vet and the doc and no flea meds for at least a month
I am going to shave her today too. I must confess I "stole" her. A man close to me was trying to run a puppy mill. He knew he was about to go to jail for it. She had 4 brothers that he drowned before I got to them. He thought he could bread Ellie< my furbaby> for money. Well i asked him if I could have her before he got busted and he said no way she was going to be his rent maker. Well I had already called the police and turned him in for cruility. I told the police about the puppy . And that i was going to "steal" her. They said go for it before they came the next day. He had her under a wooden box in his back yard. I waited until 2 in the morning for the creep to go to bed. Then I climbed my fat self over his fence. lol It was a million dollar video I am sure lol Grabbed her and ran.
I am happy to say that he will be in jail a while

My baby is now safe ,sassy and spoiled.
Just the way I like my babies!

When my dog gets a bath we use dish soap as well. The Pamolive wipes work great as well. just wet them like you would before doing your dishes and wash away. The fleas stick to the rough side of it as you bathe the animal.
We use those or Joy but I think most any dish detergent is said to kill or at least lessen the amount of fleas.
Good luck.

I'm so proud of you Lisa!!!! I get really really upset when people do stuff like that to animals. I'm so happy you saved your little furbaby. I would suggest the Dawn also. It will work pretty well when they are eat up with fleas. I would also agree that you might splurge and go with the groomer route also. Good luck with the little one.

Lisa, get a lice comb OR a fles comb. They are very, very fine toothed. Comb her with it and you can get a lot of the fleas and the eggs out with it. Dip the comb in soapy water to kill the fleas and the eggs.
Good for you for "stealing"!!! You might like a dog forum I belong to: dog.com. It has all sorts of good info on the proper care and feeding of your fur baby!

You cant use flea preparation shampoos on ferrets but I was told that hey drown in water - you hold the head up til they all run up there and then repeatedly dunk that too - it scares your baby a little - but only momentarily. It is ok to use flea killer on their bedding and what not to get rid of any eggs - just not on them - Puppies, Kittens, ferrets, and all of the little guys ( wampsters and whatnot)

When we got our pup, he was eaten up with fleas as well. We took him to the vet and she gave us Frontline. Our pup was only 6 weeks old, maybe younger, and the vet said it wouldn't hurt him. We put it on him and within a couple of hours, there was a dog outline of dead fleas at the spot where he had been laying on the deck. We still use Frontline on him and have never had any trouble with him getting fleas.
