    Default We got a kitty

I can't believe we got a kitten today.

We were on the way to the apple orchard and it's about 14 miles from home. On the way, I saw a sign and we just kept on driving and I didn't comment. Gabe had mentioned possibly getting a kitten as a surprise for the kids near their birthday. I was on the fence about it. I LOVE pets, but have my hands full already. Plus, Gabe is allergic. He said he was willing to go to the allergist, so we could have one. I thought the topic was dropped because of my apprehensions.

So, we go to the orchard and omg what a joke. Their ad read that apples could be picked through October. They also claimed to have over 1700 varieties and boasted antique varieties etc.
We pulled into what looked like a regular house with about possibly 100 dwarf apple trees. As soon as we pulled in, Zachary starts laughing and says I think we're a little late. There aren't any apples! roflmao I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I mean these trees were almost naked. I'm talking no leaves and just twiggy branches. It looked like where apple trees go to die. A few trees had a couple of dead looking apples on them and I just couldn't stop laughing. It was well worth the trip just for the stomachache I got from us all laughing and making jokes about it.

Anyway, on the way back there was a huge sign FREE KITTENS. Gabe turns off the road and I just knew there was no looking back. We went and there wasn't anyone home. I mentioned the other sign I saw earlier and we headed there. It was so sad. This person had 6 kittens and they were so sickly looking. I'm talking ears infested with mites and eyes all gucked up and they just looked so bad. I was so angry that I couldn't speak. The lady says to me "how many do ya want?" I said none. She says oh that one needs a vet. I said yes they do need a vet and I practically ran out of there. I wasn't sure what to do. A part of me wanted to take them all. I was so worked up.

Then we went back to the other house and there were two kittens left. They looked identical, but one was a spaz and very scratchy and clawing and was not a happy guy. The other was very calm and timid and a much better match for us here with the kids.

So, we now have a little kitten. Zachary wanted to name him Jimmy Neutron, so now he's named Jimmy. Jimmy had a little dust in his ears from ear mites, but I swabbed them a bit with some olive oil and qtips until I can get him to the vet. Nothing too bad and he looks good and healthy. He's just very shy and I'm sure still in shock. I made him a little bed with some blankets and he's sleeping in his bed in Zachary's room.

I'll post a pic soon, but he looks a bit similar to Fonzi.

If you've read this far, thanks.

I am smiling from ear to ear. Jimmy found himself a happy home. The kids must be thrilled.
    LMAO over the apple orchard.

The kids are overjoyed. I had no idea they would be so excited and happy about a kitten. When we pulled up to the first place, I didn't say why we were there. I asked Zachary if he knew something that was soft, fuzzy, and furry. He named a horse, a chick, a bird, a pig. rofl We still didn't let on a thing. Then when we went to the second place, I went in alone to scope the kittens out and of course ran back to the car, so the kids still didn't know what was going on. Then we went back to the first place and I brought the kitten into the car they just flipped out. lol We had to stop to get kitty supplies and Gabe went into the store and we stayed in the car. As soon as we got home, these kids didn't settle down until they finally went to bed. lol They were literally running all over the house they were so hyped up. lol

Zachary has a lot of questions about kittens. Things like what's that? (litter box) and I explained it was where the kitten went "potty". He asked how we flush it. rofl I said we don't. I have to empty it in and put new litter in. He wanted to see the kitten's claws and was telling Alexandra not to touch his whiskers and to be gentle. lol The questions though...where does he sleep? what does he eat? is he going to stay small? what can he play?

    Today was a good day.

oops..forgot to add. I went to the grocery store. Local grown apples were there for $1.99 half peck. I brought home a bag of them. I get in the door and Zachary sees the apples. Gabe says LOOK mommy went apple picking in the dark! rofl What a goofball.

RFLMAO at that apple orchard. Don't kids say such cute things!! Here's a silly question....about how many apples are in a half peck? I can't remember ever seeing them sold that way. Glad the kids love their new kitty!!

Heather, I'll count apples but can say it's 5-6 lbs in a half peck.

    What a fun day!

And tell Gabe that I used to be allergic to cats too, but over time living with them has really decreased my sensitivity. I used to have watery eyes, sneezing, the whole bit, just from being in someone's home who had cats. Now, I live with three of them and don't have any problems. I hope it works that way for him!
