Default Can you get a cat's claws clipped?

I am going to buy soft claws, I dont care that they are kind of hard to budget it, If I don't the cat has to go. He is tearing me up! I was looking at his claws while he is eating and they are about 1/4 inch beyond his paws! Is this normal? I am SO scratched up, he is wild. He is going to get fixed on the 27th. It is only 5.00 through the local Humane Society. I want to call a grooming shop this morning and see if I can have his nails clipped!

I love this cat, he is SO beautiful and fluffy, it is just that he is attacking me! As I sit here at the computer he is jumping on my legs and hanging onto my skin!

He is great when I go to bed at night he sleeps in my room on my bed in his little bed, when the light goes off, he goes to his bed and sleeps til 5am when he wakes me up. I am hopiong that the people who gave me this cat didnt give him away because he is a terror.

He is about 5 months old, not a baby sized cat. Will this behavior ever go away?
Please calling all cat lovers HELP!!!

Yes the behavior should mellow out as he ages. If you wrap him in a towel and just pull out one foot at a time you can clip them yourself. You will be able to see where to clip to - only clip what is clear - otherwise you will get into the cuticle and it will bleed and hurt. How much did you find the soft claws for?? I haven't found anyone here that will do them yet - but I did find some of the acrylic at the Medical supply - I was debating doing it myself.

The soft claws are $17.95 plus shipping about 25-27.00, but worth it I think.

    I am desperate!

I clip kricket's claws myself. But like Kimmee said, be careful. Also, I have never heard of soft claws, what is this?

Robin - Do you have an address for the soft claws? Of course I would need 9 sets!

Robin do what Kimmee said, you only need a regular pair of nail clippers. If he is wild, make sure your legs and arms are covered up to protect them.

I only do front claws myself and the vet does the back ones. Runs me $5 for front and $7 for both front and back, but that is WITH and office call. I think it is more if that is all you want done.

Oh and they have to be done about once a week. I lock myself in the bathroom with the ones that fight me. That way they can't get too far away from me. Don't do it in a bedroom, too many hiding spots.

I clip Jimmy's myself. I just clip the hook part and what is clear. I clip every 5 days.

Its too bad this wasn't posted sooner. In a decluttering whirlwind I threw out the rest of my softpaw pack. I had them for a wild cat we adopted from the pound. He was GORGEOUS....but hated people. Needless to say after 6 months of trying I returned him. Good luck with your baby. He just sounds young!

Yes Robin, just a regular people pair of clippers, that is what my vet uses too. When he gets older and his nails get thicker, I use the larger size nail clippers.

Don't forget to wrap him up in a towel, right up under his chin, mummy style. You don't want those back feet coming out at all, they are the most powerful and can cause you a lot of damage on your legs.

From now on, every chance you get hold his paws so he gets used to the feeling. Cats don't like thier paws touched, but they can learn to accept it. Most of mine give me no problems, I only have 2 that actually fight me.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

We had the vet put soft claws on Speck a few times (when we first got Speedy and Rocky since all she did was smack them...lol)

Now one of us will hold the cat and the other will clip the nails. We just use regular nail clippers also.

We do them about every 1-2 weeks (or when ever we find the clippers, which ever comes first)

I would get a squirt bottle and spray him every time he attacks your legs. Cats HATE this and it WILL stop him.

I would reccomend gloves when you clip his nails (if you're th eholder!). Tthis way if he gets loose, you have a better chance of not getting bitten.
