    Question Glucosamine for Dogs

Scooter, our bassett hound/beagle mix, is starting to have some trouble in the mornings walking; limping. His feet are turned completely sideways (nails point left or right instead of towards the front). As the day goes on, he seems to be okay and does rev up, chase squirrels, etc. I think he's starting to have some joint pain and I've decided to try him on Glucosamine/Chondrotin (okay I can't spell but I hope you know what I mean). Does anyone else have their pet on this? I'm going to ask the vet about it but what I've read on the internets indicates that it will help dogs the same as it does people. Luckily it's on sale, buy 1 get 1 free too.

    Any thoughts?

I have used Drs Foster & Smith Joint care on my boxer for a couple years now. He has very bad hips. He was diagnosed with displasia at 6 months of age, that's how bad he is. Well this joint care (glucosamine/condroi(sp) ) has given him a quality of life he wouldn't have had without it. I highly recommend it. I just this week started my MinPin Jake on it because xrays showed he has issues with his right hip. Not the same thing as displasia but between that and his knee cap issues (common for little dogs) the vet & I figure it can't hurt.
My vet actually recommended it for both dogs.

It is excellent for dogs joint health! Brewers yeast is also a good choice for overall health. But let me ask you this......What kind of food is your pet eating? Does it have byproducts, chemicles, dyes, corn, wheat etc? All things that can lead to degenerative conditions. Also, vaccines can lead to these conditions as well. Its a combination of these two things in an animals life that lead to problems in the future. www.shirleyswellnesscafe.com is a great site to research. I even purchase my cats food from her site

What about using these same things for cats?

I have been told that you can't use much of anything for a cat that you can use for a dog. We have a dog and a cat and both have sore joints with the limping, etc.

    Any advice?

You sure can Cheryl. The glucosamine is one of the eight essential sugars for life, and cats will greatly benefit from it as well. Another great natural product for cats and dogs is barley grass.
