    Default Buster and his surgery

So Buster had what started out as a blister on his back leg. Slowly over the past year it grew bigger. The vet said it was just a skin tag and seeing as Sharpei's are BIG babies (does he know Buster or what??) he would rather not do anything to do and just keep an eye on it.

Well before the holidays it had gotten so much more swollen that I went ahead and made the surgery date. YIKES -- a $400+ bill but it had to be done.

I dropped Buster off at the vets before work on Fri. Ds and I went to pick him up at 5p.

Oh BOY!! First of all we were talking to the vet and he is such a nice guy!! He seemed rather nervous as he was kind of babbling on. Finally he mentioned another injury?? I was thinking maybe they found another problem?? Well -- he did it again.

I started getting alarmed when the vet demo'd on himself and put a leash around his neck as he was telling me. Turns out Buster (with the lead on him) when the vet was taking him to the dog run did his infamous chew-on-the-leash trick and bit his lip pretty badly. The vet brought him back in and here this dog is bleeding all over the place!

So Buster has two stitches in his face where he bit himself, the vet feels a TON better when I told him we just had this happen at the groomers and we had a LONG converstation about Sharpeis.

They are SUCH an interesting breed and I told the vet it was just a fluke we had one.

Did you know (and the vet had done some research prior to this) that when a Sharpei is cut their blood is very stringy. Kind of like the gel in an Aloe Vera plant. The vet said they have some self-healing properties. He said that they were bred for fighting by the Chinese back thousands of years ago. He also mentioned that PitBulls don't have this trait and they were bred for fighting. I told him the Chinese actually knew what they were doing!!

Poor Buster...maybe he won't bite the leash anymore? Seriously, my Mitzy does that too (Jack Russell). It's a wonder she hasn't bitten herself yet!
