Darn Ducks!
Since weve had cold cold winter my ducks have had drinking water but not bathing water. Needless to say they looked greasy and in the pekings case down right grungy. Since we hit 40 today I decided to fill them a big tub of luke warm water. Since it wasn't their normal pool they wanted nothing to do with it! I had to catch the two of them individually and actually hold them in and sloosh water on them.
After I was wet, stinky and lthy then they decided it was a great idea~

You must have been a sight! I think it was a very nice the way you showed your ducks how to be ducks.

I'm also freaked out by chickens. I had a bad run in with a rooster as a kid. I think they were called coachens but I'm not sure they are big and have feathered legs. I was getting eggs 4 the neighbors in my littles sun dress when the rooster attacked. Trying to run I tripped and fell. The rooster was ripping me up when my Dad hear me yelling. Dad tryed to shoo him and he wouldnt stop so Dad had to hit the rooster with a board. I've hated them ever since! I think maybe if I got a chick and raised it it mght be ok.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I plan on having a couple ducks for my garden when I get settled.
I'm not one for chickens and I surly don't want a goose, but 2 ducks are part of my fantasy homestead

The ducks are great for eatting bugs. However they also eat my plants (not as bad as the goose though!). I mainly just have them because they are so cute and comical!Originally posted by RuthNY

We plan on getting some ducks when we finish the other pond which will be in front of the new house. We do have another pond that was already here when we bought the property, and we want to keep it natural. We do have wild ducks who come to it to winter over. I have raised several ducks with my chickens before. I would just put a kiddie pool filled with water in the pen and they would have a ball. LOL, even a few of the chickens would sometimes take a dip!

Michelle,
Do you think our ducks will try to take off with the wild ones when they leave in spring? Was just wondering, since I have never had loose ducks before, and the few we had were raised in the chicken yard.
