neighborhood cat problem
I am going batty here. On top of not getting any sleep with a newborn...
Just when I do get the opportunity to lay down, there are a few female cats outside in heat. and they have decided to hang out in my yard! How do i get rid of these rather vocal and annoying furries? I have called the Humane Society who said i have to catch them before they will come get them. There's no way I am chasing them down this soon after having a c-section so I have to find another way to get them to find another place for their...concerts.~~ Missy ~~

I am sorry for your problem. I have the same problem only this is my neighbor and she has about 50 cats and kittens and more on the way. She's on unemployment so can't spend the money on getting them fixed. I don't even think she can afford to feed them,,,, /i got a cat trap from the humane soceity. He home smells so back if she opens her windows the smell is terrible and I have to close up that side of my house. I honestly think if you are going to have animals take care of them. I hope you animal problem will disapear real soon. Fern
Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

That's so sad, Fern. I grew up next door to an old lady who had about 50-75 cats. You could smell the house from the street!

Sprinkling red pepper flakes liberally in my flower beds got rid of squirrels at our old house.... do you think it would work for cats? I don't know. I used a container of red pepper flakes from Odd Lots, so I was only out fifty cents if it didn't work.
I have heard that coffee grounds has the same effect, but I've never tried that.
When we had trouble with a lot of feral cats at work, the local animal shelter (I think it was SISCA) rented us cages to trap them in. I don't remember what we paid, but, we felt it was worth it to trap them humanely.
I hope you can find a way to take care of this and get some sleep!

Actually, it's usually the TOM cats who call. Queens (females) usually make a low, purring sound to call the toms (think, "Hey, big boy!") that they find irresistable.
I agree--take the hose to them!
