    Default Animal Meds/Sick dogs

My doggie Jazmine is sick, and has to take 3 different antibotics. The vet gave them to us and we took them blindly.
Later that day, BF's sister came over (she is a pharmasist) and was looking at the list of meds (and the price next to each one). She mentioned that we paid way to much ($15-20 over) for each med, and next time we should ask the vet to write a prescription and take it to walmart or meijers to fill.
I didn't realize we could do this, but she said it's usually the same medicine as humans use, and she fills scripts for animals all the time.
So - lesson learned is take your pet meds to a people pharmacy to get filled!!!
Did anyone else know of this?

I didn't know that. I will have to check into it.

    Thanks for the tip.

My last dog needed valium for traveling/fireworks. Our vet just wrote the prescription and I took it to th epharmacy. Boy, did I get funny looks from the pharmacist when I explained that it was NOT for me, but my dog! ROFLLL

Yep, I had to have one filled at the pharmacy once for my cat. She was having seizures and the vet didn't keep any on hand. They looked at me a bit funny too when I said it was for my cat. LOL
