    Question Pet Meds??

Where does everyone get their pet meds from and about how much are you paying?

Does anyone use 1800petmeds.com? How does it work?

I have two pugs and I live in a semi-woody (is that a word?) area so they both get their heart worm pill 12 months a year and their flea medicine about 6 months out of the year. Heartworm pills alone are about $200 for both of them!!! They will need their refills around X-mas, plus their yearly rabie shots...I'm really dreading it. So I would love to hear where and how much you pay for your pet meds.

    Thanks!

I haven't tried any of the mail order companies.

We do buy ours from our vet's office and the price is outrageous (and keeps going up - they claim it is the mfg.'s raising the prices). We have checked with local feed stores that carry the same meds, but they are even more expensive unfortunately.

We have 3 Australian Shepherds and are paying roughly $761/year for heartworm (Heartgard) and flea/tick (Frontline) for them - each dog gets a dose of both each month. Obviously their weight puts them in the mid-range for those meds so we're not buying the cheapest ones, but not the most expensive either (at least around here the price varies by the product which varies by the animal's weight).

I have heard bad things about the online pet med companies. If you notice when they are advertising the medications on television the model always has her fingers over the name brand on the packages and that is because you may not get the name brand that you are familiar with and trust. You may get a "knockoff" that may not work as well as the one that you get from your own vet's office.

Here is a link to a review from epinions.com that had some interesting information.
