    Default rescued horses

well for my birthday, my 2 friends got me a horse.i had her 7 years ago and sold her, but have been wanting another one for awhile. anyway, we went out to get her and she was in terrible shape, 250 pounds under weight, no foot care, pregnant again( they just took a 4 month old filly off her last week. i was so upset, this mare is 23 years old and should be retired. anyway after we got there and saw the condition fo the other 16 horses including a yearling that was pg by her father, we got out of there with 1 horse and a 4 month old filly. there was no food, water, or shade for these poor babies. the filly had a slice around her neck that should have had several stitches but she got no vet care what ever. all the mares (there were 8 )were all pg and all had babies. we got home called the vet and had our 2 checked, then we called the sherriff for hte county they are in and turned them in. there was a kitten i went to pet but when it looked up at me there was pus running out of it's eyes. we took pictures and now this lady is facing charges in 2 counties, her land involves both so they are trying to get her in both counties.
this has not been a frugal week fo r me at all, the trip to get them was over 100.00 it was 3 hours away, the money for the vet, the food, the special diet and shots. but she is worth every penny and much more, already she has gained weight and is getting fiesty!

I want to hug you for being such a kind and caring person. I love horses, and all animals, and when I hear of them being badly treated it makes me incrediably sad. You've made a big difference. You did the right thing to tell the sherrif. Animals are like small children, they can't speak for themselves and we are all responsible for looking after them.

I hope your mare has a healthy foal and she lives a long life with you.

I think you did a wonderful thing as well. I've been watching CNN about the hurricane carnage and saw the man that had several miniature horses....he was asking that somebody, anybody come and get them before they starve

That was a wonderful thing to do, I cannot tolerate cruelty to animals, I love them all. You did the right thing contacting the sherriff, I would have done the same. This woman needs locking up!!

my mare is getting along great, she is already putting on the pounds and had a real attitude last night, she was feeling her oats as they say. the baby is learning to trust us, and that not all people will hurt her. we will be mending nad putting up fences so we might get more. wish us and the horses luck!

    Good luck to you all!

I just wanted to add that you're such a positive role model for your kids. Children learn what they see and this will teach them so much about kindness, respect and responsibility. Well done.

You're an angel for rescuing her. We just rescued a Welsh pony (with a colt that we ended up having to put down due to a bacterial infection) this past spring. She's getting fat and sassy now, and my kids adore her.

You did the right thing. I hope those horrible people get charged to the full extent of the law.

I am glad your new babies are doing well. I am so sickened to hear how those poor animals were treated. The woman deserves worse than being locked up, what a monster she is!

Please keep us updated in what is done to the her. I hope that they put her so far back in jail that in the words of Dr Phil "they have to pump sunlight" to her.

finn, your horse looks like my ruby! the baby katana, is doing great she is really adjusting to people, we got a halter on her and walked her down the road yesterday, she did great once she realized she was going to walk! she wasn't happy about leaving ruby but we want her to become dependent on people not ruby as they will be seperated soon. ruby, well we worked her also, seh hasn't forgot anything(except some manners) she was still squaring up and side stepping when asked and given the cues, she is a 4H horse and we were afraid she would forget, not that she will ever be used for that again. when she saw me pull up in the drive yesterday she started nicklering, it was the most awesome sound! as far as an update ont he other horses, we heard that the lady has no more animals, not even the barn cats, and she will be prosacuted in both counties, her land runs in both counties and some horses were in both counties(YIPPEE) aniaml abuse is now a felony in the state of nebraska ! i hope she looks good in orange!
