I have heard this is a great way to find a new family member. What has been your experience? Dog?Cat? Other?

I am trying to find Bird rescue groups and am not haivng much luck in my city (or with in what we concider reasonable driving distance).

Anyone else know here I can look?

We got our youngest Aussie through our state rescue group 3 years ago. We found him listed on www.petfinder.org He's wonderful and we could not have asked for a better experience.

Missy, it's a wonderful way to get a new pet while giving the pet a new chance at life.

One of our dogs, Rosie, was a rescued dog. She was taken back by her breeders. We bought Rosie and her neice, Alice, who was then a tiny puppy. Rosie adjusted well to kindness and a loving family and although she had a couple of health problems caused by the children of the previous family riding on her back, we got her through that and now she healthy and fit.

I don't know where you live but here are two sites for you to look at:
    http://www.birdrescue.com/home.htm
    http://www.tarafoundation.com/adoption.html

    Good luck!

Pre owned pets are the best!!!! My last 2 dogs were given to us, as they needed different homes. I view it as God bringing just the right fur person (or feathery person) in need of a home, to just the right home.

Missy, I have had 2 Rescue dogs and Suzy ( you have seen in My recent Holiday pictures) is a rescue dog, she had been very badly treated and it took 9 months of intense and patient loving to get her to the FANTASTIC loving little soul she is

This little fur-person is the light of our lives and gives us SO much joy and love.

We never wanted to create a " demand" for a dog who was bred for profit, so we decided to get a "recycled pet"

We go her through a Breed Rescue Charity.
Maybe there is a Bird Group/Society that runs similar things in the US?

My last three cats have been rescues! I got two through my vet and one from CAT (Cat Adoption Team) near us. They have all been great fur friends.

    Def check out Petfinder.com

Two of our animals are rescues and the last was tossed out behind Walmart. Our society is a thow-away world and I FULLY believe that "recycled" pets have the most to offer. My dh has banned me from the site as I always think we have room for "just one more". God help me if I end up senile and alone. I'll surely turn into one of those pet hoarders with a million animals....
