Need help with my cat
We have a cat who is five years old. For no apparent reason she has started to do her business on the carpet outside my office door. Her litter box is in my office and she will use it to urinate but is defecating on the carpet.
I have not changed the litter that I use, the box is clean and is scooped daily. There is nothing in the room to frighten her and we have not had any upheaval in the family that might have upset her.
Anyone have any suggestions how to stop this behavior?
I did purchase a new second litter box today and put it in the spot she has been using. I am hoping she starts to use the new box instead of finding another spot on the rug!

Ugh, usually when a cat starts to do this there is a reason of some sort. Have you taken her to the vet? She may have some sort of infection that you're not aware of. The problem with this is.....it's so hard to stop, once they start.
I hope you get it figured out.

She could have a urinary tract infection, or something similar. A lot of times, weird cat litterbox problems seem to stem from infections or illness. Try talking to your vet, your kitty may need to be seen, and it is probably something fairly minor

Good luck!

Yep I agree with the ladies. If you have ruled out any stress related problems or changes around the house, it is most likely health related. Your kitty may have an infection of some sort, hence she is thinking litter box = pain so won't use it. Call your vet and see what they say. And if she does need an antibiotic you can purchase a pill giver (long syringe type thing with rubber on one end) for pill form or it you aren't comfortable with that, they can give you liquid form but you have to ask for adult cats.
Good luck and I hope your baby is feeling better in no time.
