Oh my poor Heidi (kinda gross...sorry)
She had a beauty appt. today and when I went to pick her up at the goomers the girl said Heidi has an empacted anal sack.
She said I tried to express it as usual but it's swollen and very sore. You need to take her to the vet. Sssoooo I did, he tried and couldn't get it to express either so he said give her this anti biotic and expect that it will burst in the next day or 2. It's really messy and you'll have to express it for several days afterwards...she's not gonna be happy about that either.
Sssoooo we are home and I'm about to give her the first dose of meds. I'm not looking forward to this. Ack.

That is a pretty ugly job but somebody has to do it unfortunately that somebody is you! She'll be happier for it when it's over!

Gypsy had this happen...over a weekend when we had company !
I chased her around with a rag and tissue so I could keep her cleaned up. It burst on Sunday night and she had to have antibiotics for ten days and a sore bottom for a couple of weeks.
Give your baby lots of extra attention and more treats. This too shall pass.

As dogs get older this can be a problem and one of my other dogs had this problem a few times.
However, we have introduced Suzy to fruit, she has about 10 seedles grapes every evening as a treat
not only does she LOVE them ( and remind us if we forget to give them to her
) she also is fine in the evacuation dept
We also give her a bit of apple when we have one, sometimes she want's some, sometimes she doesn't but she ALWAYS wants the grapes
Not a "cheap" treat, but certainly less expensive than a trip to the Vet's.
Big hugs to poor Heidi I hope the poor little love feels better soon.

Too many grapes can be poisonous, so be careful! Dogs have gotten ill from eating a lot of them.

Don't worry Lori, she only gets a few of them, they are the seedles type ( wouldn't give her ones with seeds) and she seems to be thriving on themOriginally posted by Lori Biever-Launder
