Default My poor dog and allergies

usually Buster has some skin allergies during the summer. Nothing terrible and benadryl usually does the trick. Here it is into Nov and he's looking awful -- scratching etc. Any suggestions? I was thinking of increasing the benadryl but don't want to without talking to the vet.

I have in the past found that my previous dog was allergic to Carpet freshner powder ( the shake 'n' Vac" type stuff) and also the coloured dye in some dog chew treats, as soon as these stopped she was fine

I also had another rescue dog who had a very poor coat condition before we got him and for a number of weeks after we had him until I got him back to health.

I put a little cod liver oil in his food ( in capsules so he didn't notice the taste )

I also used to spray a little leave in conditioner into my hands & then massage him, that also semd to help and his fur came back all thick and shiny.

I hope you work out what the problem is.

What doyo feed your dog? It's possible Buster has a food allergy. Corn is a very common inggredient in inexpensive foods and many, many dogs are allergic to it. Look into a lamb and rice food or someting with no grain at all, like venison and potato or a fish-based food. don't feed Science Diet or Eukanuba--they aren't good foods any more since they were bought out by the huge corporations!

Without knowing what the little guy is allergic to??
-We were told to dry off our furbaby if he got wet on his walk
-we would switch bathing him with Mango Tango and Aveeno in between his monthly groom appointments.
I hope he is feeling better soon.

Well he is a Shar-pei -- prone to skin conditions but we've never really had any problems except during the hot months. I've never found exactly what he was allergic too. I feed him Iams which I consider to be good stuff but maybe I should look into something else. The trip to the vet won't be til next week so until then I'm going to try the Aveeno bath. Maybe the vet can give me some advice over the phone til payday comes!

Laika, my dobie is prone to skin problems. She would chew her hair all off her underside, until she was bleeding. I finally ended up taking her to the vet. He put her on several things but what seemded to work best was a huge pill called, Omega 3 Fatty Acid capsules. Hope she feels better soon. A sick furbay is a sad thing indeed.
