Red face oy vey!! How to explain this one...

Ds has caught our cockatiels...doing...uh...their birdie thing. He's 6 and asked exactly what is going on.

"Mom, Arc is standing on Maleka."
    "Um, yes, yes he is"
    "Why?"
    "Because that's what birds do."
    "Why?"
"Because they are eager to lay eggs. Pass the bread."
"Baby birds are in eggs, right?"
"Yes, they are. Now the mayonaise, please."
"So...they want to be Mom and Dad birds?"
"Yes, they do - hand me the cheese."
"And it takes a boy bird and a girl bird to be a Mommy and a Daddy bird?"
"Yes, Son, that's how it works. Want chips with that?"
"Yeah. So how does it happen, how does a mommy bird and a daddy bird make the egg that the baby bird is in?"
(Mommy choking on a bite of ham sandwhich here) "Well, um, when a mom and a dad really love each other...uh...lemme get my water." (clearing throat) "When a mommy and a daddy bird love each other, they want to have babies that they can share the love with..."
"So God gives em an egg??"
"Yeah! That's it, God gives em an egg! They have to carefully take care of an egg, and when the time is right, the baby bird will come out and you'll get to see it."
"Mom, can I go watch tv?"
"Please do. Put your plate in the sink first."

Yikes. I need to get in gear and talk about the "big talk" with DH in a hurry before this needs to get into further depth!!

LOL Missy. I think you handled that very well. I was choking on my drink laughing so hard at your conversation. You have a wonderful way with words. I felt like I was the invisible auntie in the corner watching the scene play out. Thanks for sharing that giggle with us. (I know it is funnier when you are not the one having to answer those kind of questions, LOL) .

Missy you are so funny! kids are so cute, I swear they often *know* the answer to what they are asking ( more or less) I think they just like to watch their parents squirm or choke on their food

You handled it very well, I think I would be thinking of the " big talk" soon too before the kids at school start er, discussing stuff, they often have some straaaaaaaaaaange ideas about stuff like that!

ROFL, Dh wants nothing to do with this conversation yet. He thought it was pretty funny that I got to do the explaining

Funny stuff, you should be a writer. "The big talk" I remember those days. I raised 3 sons and you would not believe what they learned the the playground of a catholic school!

Missy, great job. Now consider that a 'warm up' for the 'real' talk. You've got a little time to work on your nervousness. At least it was the birds he walked in on

LOL, he's at Omas right now, hopefully he doesn't bring it up to her...that could go horribly wrong. Can we say "boundary issues"? in the meantime, dh and I have decided to look for a couple of books to put away for him when he asks and is ready for the "big talk".

    Where Did I Come From?

I bet I can find them at Amazon. LOL, we're glad it was just the birds he surprised. LOL, or we'd have other issues to worry about.
