Default We have a new pet...

My dd asked her Grandmother for cash this year for Christmas, and that is what she got. She has been wanting a "pocket pet". So today we went and purchased "Merlin" a Siberian Dwarf Hamster. He is so cute! Dwarf Hamsters only grow to 3-4" long. This one is all white, he looks like a small powder puff. We spent much of last week doing "research" on small animals. At first, she thought she wanted a mouse, but once we learned about the Dwarf Hamsters, that is what we decided to get.

Deb, I've seen those tiny hamsters on Martha with Marc Marone. She had them sitting in little tea cups. They're adorable. I'm so glad your DD got the thing she wanted. I think it's great for children to have pets.

    Long live Merlin!

How neat! Dd used to have those small hamsters too, be careful they are master escape artists.

We spent alot of time looking for an "escape proof" habitat. We purchased a Habitrail Mini. These are made for mice and dwarf hamsters. the wire parts of the cage (for ventilation) are very close together. We made him a little "cave" out of an 8 oz. margarine cup. He loves to sleep inside it.

My kids have hamsters and we use the Crittertrail cages and have never had any problems with them getting out.
