Finches are laying like mad!
Lucy just finished laying her clutch of four. And not to be out done, Ethel has begun laying now too. Only Ethel decided that rather than to lay in a nest, she's gonna lay in the food dish!! I moved it to the nest, she has noticed. and So has lucy, who snuck a sit down on it. Ethel is now adding stuff to the nest to help retain heat ( I shredded up some raffia for the girls). Fred is looking quite pleased with himself.

That's what happens when Ricky spends too much time at the club...Ya that Fred's a real chick magnet.

ok, here's a pic of the bottom area of the cage. You can see all three finches.
The nests are in the back. Fred is the one with orange cheeks.~~ Missy ~~

in his beak (last pic) you can see him carrying a scrap of fabric. It's a science experiment ds 1 is doing to see what they will use and what they won't for their nests. (do not offer any bird yarn or string, it tangles in their feet!!) we've tried fabric, they love that, and we've tried raffia, they like that too.
Ethel is at the food dish, Lucy is on the perch.
OK, here's lucy's nest~~ Missy ~~

And here's Ethel's.
I made these nests. Made em from paper mache, painted and shellaced them. They wipe clean very well, and they aren't interested in chewing at them either. They are in the shape of half- eggs.~~ Missy ~~
