Do you have to travel far to visit your vet?
Our vet is an hour away, however she is one of the kindest vets I've had the pleasure to know. She is incredible with animals (big or small).

Ours is about 50 minutes away. I have been lucky with the dogs I have, now. There hasn't been any crisis's yet. Ours is open on saturdays so that helps.

No further than I have to go to get groceries
Our vet for regular checkups (shots, flea stuff, meds) is the military vet on post. For emergencies (sick/hurt) we to the Animal Hospital a few blocks away.

It takes us about 25 minutes drive time, depending on traffic and traffic lights.

LOL, my vet office is three miles from home. The really nice thing is that I am the vet.
So wherever I am, the vet is right there. Downright convenient.
It can be hard dealing with your own animals when they get sick, however. Fortunately, my kitties have tended to be disgustingly healthy, with renal failure in old age being the typical end of the line. It's nice to have access to the drugs and supplies I need, at cost.
I work hard to keep the gang healthy in the first place: annual vaccinations, annual baseline lab (blood and UA) over 9 years of age, dental work in a timely manner, neutering at an apropriate age, keeping them indoors, and of course feeding them properly. Most of my cats I have acquired as adults. I have only raised two of them from kittenhood (both males).

Our vet is only about 10 minutes away....the one we used to have we could have walked to their office but I grew to not like them very much and changed vets. I love the office that we go to now.
