    Default Snake rescue

Welcome to the our snake rehab center!

We were driving down to our post office to mail some bills when I saw what I thought was a dead garter snake (in FEb.!!!!) itwas all stretched out on the road.....so I drove around it and continued on my way. On my way back up the road on the way to a cub/scout meeting (after seeing a giant truck pass me and all I could think was that poor dead snake must be really smushed), I saw that it was all curled up in the middle of the lane!!! The children all yelled "IT had MOVED". So I pull over & ran to it. It was ALIVE. I picked it up just as another car was coming and ran with it to our car and handed it to my 14 yr. old. I thought I would drive it to a safer place to release it. My Dd said"the tip of its tail is squashed". So we made a detour home and set it up in a small aquarium before heading out again (now late for the meeting).

It seems to be doing well and so we are going to keep it until it is healed and it is Spring! I think it must have been forced out of its burrow because of all the flooding we have had.

Oh my freaking goodness! You are much braver than I am. I am petrified of snakes. I will run a 100 MPH before I get near a snake. A couple of year ago we drove to FL and along the way we stopped at GA and at the rest stop area it said beware of snakes. I almost freaked!!!!!!!!!! If I didn't have to go to the bathroom so bad I wouldn't of even bothered to go. You are much more braver than I am when it comes to snakes.

WOW, it is early for snakes is about all I can say.

Dh would never let us have a snake in our home or yard for that matter. He hates them. They don't bother me has long has there isn't one in our home.

You sure ARE very brave- snakes make me oogy- I don't even like to look at them. Much to my dismay, DD thinks they are neat. I've really tried to like them, even forcing myself to always go into the reptile house at the zoo, but I just can't do it.

And you were brave enough to pick it up!

Oh, we only have garter snakes here, they are max. about 3 ft long (this one is ony 18 in.) and they are non-poisionous. And they eat slugs!!!! So gardeners LOVE them.

I certainly wouldn't run out and pick up someones escaped BOA!

I think you must be a truly good person. I hope your snake recovers well. I just could not do it, I'm such a chicken when it comes to snakes.

well when mr. slithers is ready, he can go into your garden and eat his weight in nasty bugs and slugs and other things that attack a garden.

I applaud your compassion, and snakes are very nice little things, most of them totally harmless and even msot of the harmful ones in North America give warnings like rattlers rattling, or special designs etc.

I think he or she lucked out having you for a compassionate neighbor.

they give me teh hibbygibbies.sil used to have a couple of garter snakes and every so often i'd have to help her take them out when she cleaned the tank or dks would want to see them and i'd have to hold them, but it's just creepy they way they feel when they move around your hand. i'm not deathly afraid of them or anything, but i am quite content to let someone else handle them.

good for you guys for rescuing the snakey
