Exclamation Help! My cat won't let us sleep

Joey has always woken us up early by meowing. Usually it's around 5 or 5:30. Annoying, yes, but not as bad as he's been since we got home from vacation.

He has been meowing all night long. I'm talking for hours straight. Three nights now I've only gotten 4 hrs sleep. His meows aren't cute little ones either. I swear they're like 2 or 3 syllables long.

We don't let him in our bedrooms at night because he's constantly getting into things and coming right up to our faces to snuggle (which wakes us up).

Sunday night I let him in our room because he was meowing, and he continued to meow in my room!

I feel like I did when I had a newborn. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I feel bad, but I need my sleep.

Maybe he's sick or lonesome or it could be there is another cat in the neighborhood.

I'm sure he is lonesome...but that doesn't help my lack of sleep, and I don't know what I could do to fix that short of getting another cat (not going to happen). He doesn't appear to be sick.

Just call the Vet's office and see if they can give you come info over the phone.

I've heard of cats doing that but i thought it was mostly females since they do that when they have their time of month.

If I find anything out I will let you know... sorry about you not getting much sleep but does the cat meow alot during the day?

Do you have a spray bottle of water? If kitty is just trying to annoy you (sometime my cat Madison does this!) you can spray her with the water bottle when you hear her meowing. She'll learn to identify her meowing with water sprayed at her!

When we first got our cat I wanted him to sleep in bedroom but in his own space in the corner. That didnt' workd. Our cat now sleeps in the "cat condo" aka the basement. At first he would cry when we put him down there, but now he will help put himself down there and waits by the door in the morning to come out, but does not cry at night.

We put our cats on the basement at night, too. They are just too loud and active at night!

Just curious as to how your cat and YOU are doing?

Sorry I brought you a 'talker' Chelle. I just read that article Tracy posted and yep I have a few of those too. Matter of fact one of my loudest ones (Tigger) looks just like Joey so they are most likely related.

Mine do the same thing Joey is doing when I go to bed at night and close the bedroom door. But they usually give up after about a 1/2 hour. Probably because one of the others has gotten them to enter the 'Great Cat Chase' going on at the time!

Don't know what to tell you, maybe see about getting an interactive type toy that will keep his attention.

and I hope you can get some sleep soon.

Festus does the same thing to me when I go away overnight or longer. Usually just giving him some extra attention through the day so he knows I'm not leaving him again works

I think he is in heat. My sisters male cat used to circle the house mewing for hours. It drove everyone insane.

That's what I've been doing, and he was much better last night. Of course, we also left the door to the cellar open for him too since he likes to go down there a lot, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Let's hope he's good tonight too.

I feel your pain, my male cat has gotten into some bad habits like yours. Yep, he's either out if it's warm or on the porch and basement while we sleep. Took me a while to figure it out (how to deal) & I still don't sleep soundly unless he's out doing his thing for the night. I just keep wondering what he's getting into. I've been playing with him more & we've gotten into a routine & it's helped.
